Sorry for the Off topic post but after reading along here I know a few folks here have a basic understanding of electronics/wiring...etc...

Here's the deal. I have an old sub/speaker system (Monsoon M-1000) I've used on 3-4 computer set ups over the years that has stopped working. The first suspect is the power supply......and it looks exactly like this on on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290496732193

What I need to know is how to test the old one to see if it is truly kaput...or if some other component has died on the system...

I have an ohm meter.... can someone please give me a clue how to test this unit?

any help is appreciated

On the power supply it will tell you what the output voltage should be. For example it may say: Output 12VDC 800ma.

You will need to set your voltmeter to DC volts and put the test probes on the end of the wire. The center pin will be positive and the outer sleeve is negative. If it reads close to what the output should be, it's good.
