Photo & Attachment Explanation

Ted,
Expediton Portal but they seem to have photo posting figured out. As I recall it is quite simple. Is it possible to have the same set up here?
I'm not Ted, but...I think the funkiness of posting photos on WTW is built into the forum software and so can't be changed without switching to different software. Making a change like that would be a great thing for other reasons, too... but it would require the owners of WTW to spend money that they don't want to spend. :cautious:
At least, that's how I see it. :sneaky:

beating a dead horse!
it seems to me that when i first signed on to this site it was easier to post pictures (had to be
as i was able to post) which i no longer do. as someone who spends very little time posting on the internet
trying to remember all the steps to post just is not worth the trouble.
have no trouble with a couple of other sites i follow.

with easier ways to post i would wager the usage of this site would increase, every one loves pictures!
in my own case i got burned out after all the time i spent sharing builds and what i thought might be
ideas others might use,all the pictures i posted vanished, still wonder what happened!

wish posting pictures on all sites were as easy as craigslist is!

just my thoughts,yours may differ.

Les,not to beat a dead horse.
My way to attach a photo. I have Mac

1.Select the picture from i photo.
2. Click file to go to export.
3.Select "jpeg"if it doesn't show up.
4.I use medium size.
5.Send photo to desk top.
6.On a post select "more reply options" bottom right corner.
7.At bottom left of post find "browse",select that and find the picture you want from desk top.
8.Click on photo than click on attach to post.

This is the way I do my photo postings to a post . At medium size you can put about 5 photos on a post at a time.
Hope this works for you.

Don't know where your old photo posts have gone but they were useful.
I liked and copied your roof lifter.

Frank, thanks for the direction ,now if i can remember i should be ok in the future!

now i need to learn how to attach reg. size pictures instead of thumbnails.

Les,lqhikers

Congratulations, Les, you did it. Following Frank's directions, which is the easiest way, does create the thumbnail that can be clicked for a larger photo. That works just fine in most cases. Typically if you want to post a regular size photo, it needs to be hosted somewhere else, such as Flickr.

Many of us who post lots of trip reports or truck/camper-build photo essays use blogger.com as a platform for our text and photos. It may not be quite as convenient to readers on WtW, but it is much, much easier to post reports with essentially no limitations on the number of photos in one post. (See the link below in my signature for My Travel Blog, for an example.)

Bill

Bill, thanks for explaining how to post full size pictures.
i did not know that clicking on photo would enlarge.

think i will limit pictures as i posted since i take few pictures anymore.

Les glad it worked out for you.
Posting a picture using the "medium" size will get a bigger one when clicked on in the post.
If I am posting a trip with photos I use the Google blog spot site.

It seems to work for me,after some great instructions from Ski.

Like you new rig.
Didn't you have one of those "$$$ travel" vans?

Frank

Frank, you mean the Tiger 4x4 we had? if so we found we just did not use it enough due to unforeseen
dreaded "c" problems (Now under control :D ).
so now we are down to the tacoma and our fun van (ford transit set up for camping)
who knows what is next.

i tried the medium size but somehow still showed as above.

Les,lqhikers

going to try another, picture of front mount that i use to hold high lift.

I post my pictures on my blog for trips, etc. I'm confused about posting a picture. I uploaded a picture to the gallary, but I don't know how to get it into a post. I need a little 1,2,3,....... jd

JD, I usually post from Flickr. I right click on the image, then copy the image address. I then click on the WTW picture icon, and paste the image address into the dialog box. I suspect it's the same for the gallery.

You can also attach the file from your computer, and then 'Add to post'. That stuff is under 'more reply options'.

I have the photo in Picasa and also the Gallery and still can't get it into my post.

Lets see if I can help. Here's how I do it.

From your gallery here -

http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/gallery/image/14429-20150315-172329/

click on the photo to make it larger. Then right click and select "copy image location"

In the tool bar above in this reply box is a picture icon. Click on it and a dialog box appears and is labeled "Image Properties" with a box that says "URL" the cursor is already in place in the box. Right click and select "paste"

Click "OK" and your photo should show up.

It should be very similar from a a photo hosting website - right click on the photo and select "copy image location" and paste that into the "Image Properties" dialog box

Hope this helps. We'll all help you get there.

JD, go to Picasa and find the image address. In Flickr, I have to bring up 'view all sizes', then select a size. Right click on the photo and click on "Copy Image Address". Picasa should have something similar. It should look something like this.

Now, click on the photo icon (green icon above dialog in photo), and you will get the following dialog...

Next, paste the image address into the dialog.

Which will give you the image...

Edit: I just saw Mr. 3Pin's post. The gallery works just the same as Flickr (and Picasa should).
