Hello all:

I took my Grandby out for a month to California, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. It was a wonderful trip and I only had to pay for camping three nights. For photos of the trip go to: www.customcuttingboards.com/West2009.

Dan,

Spectacular photos. You've a good eye for light. I would like to encourage you to post more photos. Do share your equipment list, though i know it is the photography who really makes the shot.

The 395 really is my favorite road to travel. No matter the time of day, the light is just spectacular. When I used to live in California, I would often head up there to fish, hike and ski. Might have been different if I had the camper back then. Anyhow, I love driving up at sunrise, when the sun comes up over the white mountains and plays with the eastern Sierras. I can see why Galen lived in Bishop....

I use a Nikon D200, Nikon 18-200 lens, a Tamron 90mm macro lens, and an Induro carbon fiber tripod. I do a lot of hiking and bicycling so I like to keep things compact and light. Everything fits into a small camera bag waist pack.

In the future, I will be traveling the 395 and shooting some of the more unusual things you find along the road.

Dan,

Nice set up! I still use my trusty "travel" DSLR, the nikon d70, 18-200, rip off carbon fiber tripod. Simple and easy. Makes me want to get out and take more photos. Sometimes I am in a rush and don't slow down to compose like in the old film days. Helps that you can stay in one spot for longer periods. Maybe some folks would like to get together and do a photo trip in the campers one day?!? could be fun! If you give me advance notice and you travel far north enough, could meet you anywhere for an eyeball meeting. Love to see what other photos you have.

When I want to slow down I put on my 90mm. It makes me stop and compose instead of just snapping away with my 18-200mm.

I'd love to meet other members for a photo safari. I'm going to do some desert stuff around Thanksgiving and then southwest around Christmas/New Years.

Dan,

Those holiday times are tough to get out.....nice when you can, though. What areas do you have in mind and how many days?

I'd love to join you.

I bow in your presence.

Stunning photos. I think my camera is faulty. Yup...that must be it.

One of the only disapointments on the Colorado Rally for me was that Kodachrome didn't attend. Knowing he has the eye and the interest...I had hoped to gain some knowledge and tips on taking better photos with my new gear by possibly hanging about and shooting some shots.

dunno what the logistix would be...but I'd be into a photo/camera based Rally @ some point. Holy crap...YES.
