Although...I don't doubt that people have tried to go up stuff as steep as that dune appears.

Well...I don't mean to be a buzz-kill...

But you can see the same kind of thing, sometimes, in photos of rock climbers on a fearsome-steep overhang (hmmm....why are the runners and rope hanging off him at an angle to vertical?) and in photos of skiers/boarders plunging down a fearsome-steep slope (hmmm...why are all the confers growing at an angle to vertical?).
Probably just gravity-anomalies.
