Rear Light Plastic Lens

I currently do not own an AK (boo-hoo!!) but the old one I had did have that curved white plastic lens on it. Now it seems all I see on older AKs is it is missing. Guys have installed different fixtures after not finding those lenses available.

I had a thought though...somewhere I have one of those D-cell battery powered tap on-tap off lights in a closet. I wonder if they are the same dimensions and can be used on the AK?

Furthermore, I wonder if they can be rewired to use the 12-volt bulb the AK would have had and the complete unit attached to the AK as a replacement?

Anyone ever try this out? They certainly look similar if my memory serves me well...(questionable on that note!)
