Need recommendation on how to clean/recondition aluminum frames on 69 Alaskan.

Frames in excellent condition and hoping can make them next to perfect.

Hopefully pictures will show condition.

thanks

once you remove those corner screws the sill wrappers slide out easily....then it's your choice...polish or brushed finish?

removing the corrosion is easy...Aluprep...from an autobody paint shop....then you could etch it and let it oxidize naturally, polish it and coat it with a clear lacquer....brushed finish with 0000 steel wool and lacquer....or...god forbid....paint :D

the windows lift out once they clear the divider frame and the screens come out so they can all be finished the same....

Keep in mind that aluminum oxidizes almost instantly when you reveal the fresh aluminum

best of luck with your scrubbing ;)

Unless you are trying to get something back to showroom or close to it I don't know if it's worth the time....Your windows really don't look too bad. Maybe just clean them with the Aluprep and give them a brushed finish with some very fine grit paper. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your project.

Both real good suggestion, I will have to find some ambition this winter when it's -20 or colder.

I came across another neat idea that might make some sense and if not for the frames for other low cost quick clean up projects.

I Googled Soda Blaster and how to make a home made blaster. If it's on Google must be TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks

OK....I've got to say this.......

I'm a USMC vietnam vet....spit and polish type of guy...polished brass and spit shined shoes...all that stuff

I admit it...I give up...I PAINTED MY WINDOW FRAMES......I know....I contemplated the polish route...and the blast route...and the brushed route....

and I took the easy way out.....finally...........................that's over....I'm glad I said it

but you know Doug...after the pain of the decision was passed and the paint was dry...it looked pretty good.....

I even went out this morning...before this confession....and took a last look....they still look good, 7 years since

I've never told anyone...and everyone has always complimented on the paint job.....

(I even considered a polish job on the whole camper....airstream type)

i painted mine too after wire brushing with my drill. rustoleum metalic silver spraypaint. they look great
