Back and had a great time up in the Artic circle. We were treated like Kings. The runway was in great shape and the people were all very friendly and helpful. Here are some pics, Gallery to Red Dog AK

Here is a link for my 10 day journey, 11749 NM!

The bugs were really bad, as soon as the wind stopped, I was swarmed. I did pretty good, only got about 8 bites. I didnt have any chance of exploring, I was pretty much confined to the living area.
This was my first experience with having 24 hours of daylight. It would take some getting used too if you had to work at this location year round. Most of them worked a 2 weeks on\off schedule. Alaska airlines shuttles the workers from ANC every week. The only other way to this site besides flying, was by boat. They built a road that is 56 miles from the mine to the Chuckchi sea. That is how they move the ore. It was a very interesting operation considering how remote it is.

That all sounds similar to Australia. If the wind stops the flies will get you and the mining crews get flown in from hours away to the Pilbarra region to work similar shifts, but hot not cold
