I was itching bad to try out the new upgraded suspension so while the wife was at a weekend girls event, I decided to do a quick overnighter on the central coast.

Someone thinks my leg is a pillow

Surf was bad but I decided to get wet regardless of the conditions

After getting camp situated, we went for a hike. The dogs were off leash all weekend. No need to worry about getting tazed by rangers

The wind picked up. Noticed the sideways fire. I knew this was a sign of things to come.

Surf still sucked so I met up with a buddy and his family so we just chilled at the beach. Attempted to fish for perch but the shore pound was just too strong

The only bad part of the trip was the super strong winds in the middle of the night. I was drifting in and out of sleep trying to decide if I should drop the top and sleep on the couch. The wind got so bad it was rocking my truck and caused my leaf springs to squeak. Even with the top dropped, my truck was still rocking like crazy so at around 2 am i decided to find a more sheltered spot. For future trips where high winds may be a factor, I may leave the rear corner jacks in place to help stabilize the truck. My rear built deavers and coilovers felt great , although my Camburg UCA could use a rebuild. On the way there, I got almost 17 mpg. :D

Great looking country Mr Doody. Is that the same camping spot the SunMan has posted photos of? Thanks for the report!

Can't beat spring time on the central coast. I see the poppies are poppin'...I've been seeing a few down here at Point Mugu. Were there many people up top? SD was looking mighty chilly.

Nice pictures. The Big Sur coast area sure is nice this time of the year.Old Coast Rd. looks good.Always like the photo op with the bridge in the background.
Glad you had a nice time.

Hey SM,

I read all of your old trip reports and it was one of the reasons why I got FWC.

I arrived Sat. day at 3pm and there was still some spots but of course the 2 best spots were taken. I think the big campsite near the oak groves is the most protect from wind but has very little view. There was a group of tent campers on the buff where the hang gliders take off which was the most exposed spot. I don't know how they were able to sleep through the night but I did notice that they tried to use their truck as wind block and they also remove the tent flies. Luckily, the temperature was really mild at night.

Hope to see you on the road or in the water soon.

Jim

Interesting story about the tazer. We see lots of people walking their dogs on/off leash on the beaches here in the Monterey area. There are lots of signs at the entrances to the beach warning about weather dogs are allowed. Some people can't or refuse to heed to signs. Also people try to bother the seals and other marine mammals that are hauled out on beaches.Federal law is REAL strict about that.
Be aware out there.

After reading the article, and, as a retired LEO, sounds like the guy was an *******, and because the ranger was a women, thought he could walk away. I think he got what he deserved. YMMV.

Exactly!

Salt does the soul good! I just got back from the Eagle Lake shore and your tr, wet my whistle for that soon to be trip to the coast because any trip to the coast is a good trip--thanks for taking us along! The North coast is a little rougher, but that's okay. By the way my border collie mix Bob really liked the "doggie" parts of your tr:LOL:!

Lovely pictures, reminds me I need to head north up the road a bit after Baja and Saline. Maybe Anne and I will do a Big Sur/SF trip.

Suni, We will see you likely/hopefully in Baja. Yes, I have a little hill of California native flowers in front of my house and they are popping!
