Stinky refrigerator in 2000 Hawk -- need rebuild or replacement

The frig in my 2000 Hawk stinks like ammonia, so, after some preliminary research, I've concluded that I need a rebuild or a new fridge. Am I correctly assuming that I will need a rebuild or replacement?

I have seen several website offering rebuild services and refurbished units -- do any of you have opinions about buying a refurbished unit? If I order a rebuild, what should I look for? Any deals out there?

Any advice re removing frig or cooling unit? I am mechanical and have plenty of tools.

It's a small Dometic, but I am currently uncertain of the model #. Will advise re that after I look at it tonight.

Thanks for any helpful input!

I would check E-bay, sometimes they have good deals for sale.

Outside of that, just search the web for dealers that have good prices.

I haven't heard of anyone rebuilding their refrigerator, but I'm sure it can be done. I'm not sure if that would be a good or bad idea over buying a new model ? Really haven't heard anything about that.

If it helps we have specs. on our website for that make and model refrigerator here ...

If you get the same refriferator, it should be pretty easy to install. Just a few screws, 1 propane line, (2) 12v wires, and a 110/120v plug.

replacing the fridge (or other parts)

Hi Steve,

There is an RV dismantler in Sacramento ( http://www.rvdoctorgeorge.com/ ) that has spares of everything - refrigerators, doors, windows, awnings, etc. That doesn't help you in Seattle, but my guess is there must be a similar business up there. It could save you a lot of money.

I am certain that mine stank because of an ammonia leak. No problem because I stumbled across a deal on a new fridge for a price less than it would cost me to repair the old one.

Thanks to all for the info!
