Wondering what materials are used in your kayak and canoe? The covering and wood frame?
Thanks for asking! The boats are a skin-on frame type construction. The canoe frames are made of ash ribs and pine stringers with cherry used for decks, gunwales and thwarts. The kayak is a fuselage type construction with frames of marine plywood and chines of pine. The coaming is cherry. The skin is ballistic nylon with a w-part polyurethane coating- very tough and light. These boats weigh around 25 pounds.

The boats are made at Urban Boatbuilders where I volunteer my time. It is a great program helping kids succeed in life.

Very interesting construction methods. Awesome that you are sharing your time and skills with young folks! My brother in law is planning a canoe build I will share the link with him.
Thanks Wayne
