There is a new video posted on Bosque Bill's Backroads travel & camping blog. After much procrastination I've compiled a video from footage taken last season.

The video was published in 4K UHD, so I recommend watching on the YouTube site rather than on my blog. Watch in full-screen mode if you can so the landscapes will be large and beautiful. [Note to Mac users: Safari cannot display YouTube videos in resolutions greater than 1080p, so if you've got a 4K display use Firefox or another browser.]

Give it a thumbs-up if you like it and/or leave a comment on YouTube (or you may reply here.) Thanks.

The San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado are home to many historic mines. From the late 1800s until today this area has been a prime area for mining silver, gold, and other metals. This video shows just a few of the remanent structures to be found in this area.

Video was taken in 2019 summer and fall; a few stills were taken in prior years. Aerial video taken using a Mavic 2 Pro.

Thanks for sharing! It’s been a while since I was in that part of CO. When you think about the harsh weather conditions those things have been through its pretty amazing.

Frank, JWL, and Vic, thanks for leaving your comments. Those were great trips with beautiful scenery. Yeah, amazing how well some of those structures have held up.

Bill, you sure are getting the travel bug stirring. Oh, how we could return to that area at any time. Thanks for posting and sharing.

Thanks, Ski. Yeah, stay at home orders are still in effect for Colorado and San Juan County has been particularly aggressive in keeping non-locals away. Last I heard there were provisions to cite and fine non-locals for accessing the backcountry. I know better than to go where I'm not wanted... but the travel bug is biting.

Bill,

Adding to the chorus, really loved the video composite of many mines in Colorado. As a family we went to one of the mines around Silverton, CO a number of years back and had quite a good time. We took a tour inside the mine and got an excellent tour with a man who used to work the mines. He had lots of stories to share, and maybe some tall tales thrown in. Anyhow your drone footage was very enjoyable to watch, and it looks like your piloting skills are progressing along with your editing. Great job! Thanks!

Poky, thanks for your very nice comment. I appreciate it very much! Sounds like you had a wonderful tour that provided many lasting memories.

Sagebrush, I hope you do get the chance to roam in that area. It's gorgeous, but some of the roads are very rocky.

We got to see a couple of the places you highlighted last year while there was snow still on the ground. Unfortunately, that snow prevented us from going to places like Animas Forks. It is an amazing place to explore.
Thank you for putting this together.
