Water heater cleaning?

Thinking about back flushing heater. I was thinking about putting a couple gallon in water holding tank then hookng hose to city water filling heater an pump tank pressureizing system then opening heater drain line under city water pressure to back flush water heater..good idea or waste of time??

It's a good idea tp check the anode, it's easy to flush tank out. I got a fitting to fit in the hole for anode and attached a vinyl hose to it, run water into tank and then let in drain out onto the driveway via the hose, this will keep the heater compartment from getting so much water in there.
