Greetings.
What an amazing resource this forum is to discover. I just purchased a beautiful 2000 eagle for my Tacoma and am wondering what AWNING i can attach to it. It has brackets on the side of the camper and i am hoping i can purchase an awning from an rv type store and install it myself.

I did a search on awnings and came up with a bunch on homemade setups and a few other things that are not what i am looking for. If this has been discussed can someone please point me to where i may discover the info.
Thanks!

Dave

Search Fiamma Awnings

thanks for the suggestions. Looks like we have a consensus here.

High Z do you have the 8.5 ft 'F45i'? It looks like that one extends about six feet out.

They are a bit pricey but look top quality from here

Yes, the 8.5 foot model. It extends out about 6.5 feet.

Fiammas are high quality, and yes, they are expensive (maybe overpriced).

Mine came with the camper, and the roof latch on that side is next to the front end of the awning. You may have to move your latch.

The spring 2010 issue of Overland Journal has a section on awnings. Worth reading. The Fiamma is reasonably priced.

I have a Sidewinder from Carefree of Colarado.

I couldn't be happier. Bought it brand new off CL for $150 from an RV guy in CT (it was teal... if I wanted a different color, it was $250 since he would have to order it; I have teal :) )

Its completely manual (no crank, so you roll it out and pop out the legs/stays), a nice aluminum box awning, low profile and about half the weight of the Fiamma. Everything folds up inside the main cross bar: the stays back to the camper and the carport legs (???). I had it deployed in some strong winds down on the outer banks and it seemed rock solid (I staked it). I would have left it up all night, but that seemed like asking for trouble.

I'd check them out.

I posted a review when I put it on (or something akin to a review) just search my posts... there are very few. I searched hi and lo for a fiamma... they just seemed too expensive to me at the time.

I am partial to my Shady Boy awning. Designed for VW vanagon campers. I got it from the company owner near Vancouver, BC. Nice guy. about 6x10 feet, can be used with poles, easy to setup and tie down. Nice aluminum case that sits on the side of the camper. Weight was something like 7 or 8 pounds. If I remember right, about 130 bucks or so. Not quite as convenient as the roll out ones, but I like the utility and light weight.

Good luck on your awning choice!

Can the ShadyBoy be mounted over the door in the rear?

Shady boy cannot be mounted over the rear door. Probably could do it with some mods, but needs some nice strong attachment points.

I considered doing this and looked at the roof. Probably not strong enough. Over the door, on the main camper wall there is just not enough room.

If you have the jack points, you could fabricate a way to essentially mount the shady boy slightly away from the rear wall, above the door, but next to the pop-up roof so that you could deploy it here and still raise the roof. I have thought of doing this. But, would rather have the convenience of the carefree truckin' awn back there instead. If I can find a used or ebay unit for cheap, may try to construct one here. But, that is another topic and issue.

Good luck.

Thanks. Anyone know of an awning that can be mounted over the back? I'm not going to build one as others have.

This link shows a Shady Boy attached over the rear door of an Eagle. Two two inch long pieces of 1 inch aluminum square stock make perfect spacers to allow the clearance needed to mount the Shady Boy. I staggered the awning so it has more coverage on the rear left side where we set up the bbq on a collapsible table using the second propane tank. I drove out to White Rock B.C. to the supplier to see if I could make the awning work, he suggested the spacers which worked perfectly. I bought a couple of stainless bolts (the supplier told me the size to get) and used washers and cap nuts on the inside.

I am debating between a Shady Boy and a Foxwing which does indeed cover the side and rear in one wrap:

I realize this is a very old thread, but, just purchased a new to me 05' Eagle. It has a 8' Fiamma passenger side awning, very nice feature. I would like to make it nice again, decals , remove rust from camper jack mounts etc... any way, I watched a youtube video on the "new" rear awning option available on the new FWC line up. Well..., I live in colorado and will not drive to Calif. to have the "new" awning installed, so , Those of you that have the smaller version of pop up's what do you [storage space is a premium ] do for a rear awning?

Thank you,
Don

Pretty sure the track is installed on all the campers now. You can purchase the sail track on line, just do a search for it. Ron
