What's your favorite camp chair?

I'd have to say that after trying many, many chairs I have found, without a doubt, that my favorite is which ever one I'm sitting in at camp. For comparison, a cold, wet rock would be better than the best office chair I've ever had. Cheers!

Helinox Sunset Chair

Super light weight.
Stows under dinette seat; or inside the kayak.
Stuff a jacket in the stow bag and it becomes a headrest, pictured here.

Most importantly, very comfortable!

Even better customer service from Big Agnes, Helinox NA distributor. If you happen to be fixing an adult beverage, and a gust of wind blows the chair into the camp fire melting the cover, one might just be able to pick up a gently used cover from BA at a deep discount.

Which ever you choose....it must not only be sturdy on FLAT ground but be able to be sat in when on uneven, gravelly or plain dirt ground. If it is not made STRONG enough, the rivets and the metal itself will not last very long. For us 200+ pound guys, a poorly made chair won't last the season if you aren't on something like concrete or asphalt....and since most of us rarely camp there....I think a part of any chair review should include (as some have) a report on how it performed when sitting down and getting up on a rough surface.

I've tried plenty when camping with a dozen or so guys....the director chairs seem sturdiest by not the most comfortable. Other chairs got points for drink tables. Some had you sitting too LOW making it hard to get up for old knees like mine. Some had pads and some did not. Some had canvas and some had plastic seats/seat backs. Some folded up SMALL and some did not and were unwieldy to carry/stow when on the road. Some were recliners (a topic for another post I think) and some were just so wobbly on entry and exit that it was not safe after your initial Adult Beverage Respite at night around the campfire.

I like the posts so far....lots of good suggestions!

I thought this was a gimmick when my wife bought one, until I sat in it. It is amazing, allowing for both upright sitting and reclining into a "stargazing" posture. Extremely comfortable, and it folds up to a packable size. Minor assembly req'd, and yes, it's pricey, but is worth it, imo!

Can you provide a link to this chair for name/information/price? Thanks!

Thanks Paul! I wonder how well it supports the neck and head for extended sessions of looking skyward?
Sorry, I meant to identify the chair. Yes, it’s a Nemo Stargaze, “luxury” model. Your head is totally supported as if you were on a chaise lounge. Here’s a YouTube vid:

Well the Lady & I were both interested enough in the Nemo Stargazer chair that we stopped at an REI and test drove one. We found it uncomfortable and not a chair for us for looking up at the night ski. We were impressed with the GCI reclining chair and are currently figuring out the best option for carrying/storage two in the camper -

Thanks for the video! The REI photo did not show the headrest.

Nice. I used to reweb a lounger in the past that we used in Baja for ages. It was a leftover from the 60's

Love those old school chairs. Wish we had a couple. :)

I go right by Kamprite on the way to the dog park. I'm of the belief you can't have too many camping chairs and as they were having a yard sale (getting ready to open a new retail section) I picked up another chair.

Quality is standard chinese chair, probably won't last more than a couple years. Testing on the patio says its pretty comfy though.

Does pack up nicely.

Have gone through a lot of chairs over the years using a couple of Harbor Freight
chairs now, cut off the table section.
Might not work for "weight challenged people" but i'm someone who likes to lean back in a chair
and this one has held up great, light weight and good frame design.
Price is not bad $19.00 with coupon.
Makes me sound cheap!
