Which Refer, Gas or Elec, Solar System?

From what I've gleaned from prior postings, 3 way refrigerators sound like a PITA.

I am going to get a solar system either way I go. Does it make sense to get the 3 way and primarily use electric and propane occasionally, or go electric all the way? Are all electric refrigeators more efficient?

I suppose the amount of sunlight would be a consideration. thanks.

Rob,

With the solar power available I'd probably go with an engel for the quality and ease of use. I've considered switching out our 3 way but the cost has been the stopper.

I really like my 3 way refrigerator. It seems much more efficient on propane than 12v, but I primarily run it on propane anyway. It doesn't have a separate freezer, so I can't make ice unless I freeze everything else in the refrigerator (cold beer is good, but sometimes margaritas on the rocks would be better). However, from what I have read, the Engle 12v refrigerator seems very efficient.

I don't know how many amps per day (and therefore the size of the solar system you would need to keep the batteries topped off) an Engle will require at 90F outside temperature, but I know that I can run my 3 way for weeks on the 20 pound propane bottle at the same temperature.
