We took a few days and went to New Hampshire in early November, sort of a birthday trip for me. We checked out the two National Scenic Byways and did a few hikes that all ended up being to waterfalls. It looks like it might end up being our last outing of 2022, now that the weather has changed in the northeast.

Grew up in NH and spent many a week hiking the White Mountains including the complete 143 mile section of the AT. Some beautiful and rugged terrain.
Have you ever been to the top of Mt Washington? The Observatory, where the most severe weather ever recorded on Earth, is pretty cool. In fact, they have trips up to the summit where you can spend the night in the winter which is one of my bucket list items…

Smlobx,
I agree, I'm very impressed with how rugged it is. We have not been to the top of Mt. Washington, but it does look like it would be a great trip to do sometime. I bet the winter overnight would be interesting, depending on the weather at the time!

Back in the 80s, my former wife and I hiked Mt Washington with our two dogs. I remember this billboard at the trailhead that warned hikers of the temperature variation between the trailhead and the summit. I think the billboard read something like, “Do not attempt this hike unless you are in top physical condition. 167 people (or some number near 200) have died hiking Mt Washington.” The sign then named every person who died on the mountain and the date they died. Is that billboard still there? The billboard almost convinced us to not try. It was a great hike, but the summit was nasty. You’re drenched in sweat and suddenly find yourself on a mountain top with the temperature in the 30s. I might have a photo of that billboard in the basement somewhere.
