The Strawberry Fire was ignited by lightning on August 8th. A young USFS hotshot firefighter was killed on Saturday August 13th. All USDA facilities will fly their flags at half staff through August 22th.

More information is posted on inciweb -

newspapers report the fire in the northern portion of the Park at 90% contained.

That's very sad, I was there Tuesday and noticed the flags. Parts of the park, including the scenic drive, were closed while I was there and I could see the smoke from the highway but nothing noticeable at the campsite.

Very sad. The name jumped out at me. I worked with a Beebe when I was with CDF. Looking at the obit though she was probably not related.

Pretty cool. I was wondering about the date of the (other) fire when I hiked up to the arch. I could have mistaken their dog pics for mine.
