Yep, today is the day when meteorologists around Earth's Northern Hemisphere celebrate (reservedly -- they're scientists) the first day of winter.

I'm winter wandering where it's warmer.

I have all the windows open enjoying the 72 degree "winter".
I spent the afternoon in my kayak in T-shirt and shorts...but that's to be expected here in southern Georgia.
So what the hey is going on with that crazy West Coast weather?!...including the flood-making "atmospheric river" in the PNW..?
That ain't right!

It was 62 degrees F on the south side of Mt Adams today. Very balmy to say the least. But the clouds were fun:

Here in northern Florida -- Suwannee River State Park -- it's December and raining... But the locals are out in shorts and short sleeves. So am I.
I see why the cold-intolerant live here.

It is winter here. The air is filled with the scent of smoldering pine needles. Many of our neighbors engage in recreational yard waste burning and have no idea how to make a hot fire.

Having twice lived in Florida, I’ll paraphrase Edward Abbey. I’d rather starve in the west than fatten and flourish in the east.

Bah humbug-winter!!! Snow is expected here tonight. With age I have become one of those cold-intolerant ones mentioned by Mark! But alas, fortune has settled me here in the interface between the mountains and deserts of N E Calif/NW Nevada and SE Oregon where barring a surprise Indian Summer, my shorts and cut-offs most remain unused and lonely until the arrival of Spring and heat oh wonderful heat !!!

We will do the annual switch to snow tires on the Lady's Subaru tomorrow. :)

BRING IT ON!

Today will install snow poles to guide the plow driver, hoping to get some snow or some kind of water out of the next storm.

Snow -- wet snow...or rain with structure, at least, is forecast for my home, too.

I'll be missing that event, but glad for the much-needed moisture at home.

Plus the guys in Canada get a break while we get much needed rain. I'm hopeful, my rubber boots are at the ready!

Oh, sugarfoot…

A major atmospheric storm is headed toward Northern California, promising to drop up to 10 feet of snow on Sierra Nevada mountain peaks and much-needed rain throughout the region… If you live in the Sierra, today is the final day to prepare for a multi-day winter storm that will likely be remembered for years to come, the National Weather Service warned in a forecast issued Saturday.” Associated Press
