If you are not familiar with using a volt/ohm meter and experienced in D.C. wiring I would recommend you hook up with someone to help you or have a shop wire up the camper as needed. Sounds like you need to install a fuse/switch panel, don't wire your accessories straight to the battery.

If the counter constructed of a wood base then seal the cut out with epoxy to prevent water intrusion. Whether to use any other sealant is optional but a good idea.

I use the fwd jack plates, with a length of chain and a tunrbuckle down to a plate I fabricated. I also have up graded turnbuckles installed as per the FWC standard set up. Might be overkill, but also peace of mind.
