    Pleasant surprise!

Some may recall back in the spring I repainted the bottom of my Eagle. At the same time I also insulated between the skid strips with 3/4" blue foam board. I also built a new lower 3" platform (Eagle in full sized truck) and did the same to it with 2" blue foam. Well I haven't thought much...

Solar wiring on Eagle Shell - Help!

In an Eagle Shell the solar plug wire go under the bench and are coiled up. At least they were in mine. Then another set goes from there to the battery box and are coiled up at each end. Like Rando said test them with a meter. Then just crimp some large ring terminals on the wires in the battery...

"Rendezvous in the Ozarks" Oct 20-22

I really enjoyed the Ozarks when I was out there in June. I'd love to make this but dang that's a 1,000 miles one way for me.

Here we go again (East Coast hurricane watch)

We were supposed to leave for the Outer Banks with the camper yesterday morning. But we bagged the trip because of Irma. It's not going to be pretty anywhere along it's path. St Marteen got clobbered! Anyone down south get the hell out if you have to! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Going stir crazy grounded in the MidWest in cublicle-land

I've been wondering when you'd check in with this. A little perspective. I grew up not far from where you did. I've been stuck in the wretched east for years. I made a trip to Missouri and Arkansas in June. The open space did my soul a lot of good...

    Tips for avoiding Condensation?

I cut a 1/2" piece of blue foam board to fill the space that's created when the bed is pulled out. Keeps things nice and warm in cold weather and seems to help with the moisture as well. I also insulated under the floor pack with the same in 3/4".

    Burning Man 2017 webcam?

Yesterday I was stopped at a light in traffic. Next to me was this older hippy chick doing what appeared to be a sort of semi violent dancing in the front seat while driving(or at least stopped at the light). She was oblivious to anything around her. My 1st thought was. "Aren't you supposed to...

    Personal-size Screen House?

For super simple you might try a skeeter net. Like in the safari movies. A couple of years back we had an Asian Stink bug epidemic here in the east. Hundreds of them got into houses. We bought a couple of very large skeeter nets to hang over the beds to keep them off of us when we were asleep...

    Things I've learned

Jake I appreciate the info. But I have a request. Next time give us some paragraphs. Painful for us old timers to read a lot of text without spacing.

    roof lifting helper shocks thingys

Yep 36" are easy and cheap. But they are NOT long enough for those of us with Eagles and Fleets. That's why the 40" are custom. They just make a few of them.

Using camper battery bank/solar to recharge other battery banks (such as boat batteries).

Sure it will. The SC2030 will work as a stand alone. Just not as precise. In this mode it uses generic profiles. I'm thinking of just picking up a sc2030 and using that to charge the AGM's in my boat with my portable panels. To me that's simpler than jumping through hoops to use the camper...

    roof lifting helper shocks thingys

I just emailed FWC. They will not sell to customers. You have to have the struts installed at the factory or a dealer. I think this is a new policy. So I called Suspa and spoke to a very nice lady there. Yes the 40" gas springs are made for FWC. They have not been on the Suspa web site. She...

Yakima Rack vs aluminum rack on Hawk

Do both sorta. When you get the Yakima tracks just buy the towers and feet. Then order some 6' x 1 1/16" aluminum tubing for the cross bars. That saves a couple of pounds just in the bars. http://www.metalsdepot.com/products/alum2.phtml?page=rndtube&LimAcc=%20&aident=

    Would you buy another fwc

The Eagle base has a 17" bed mounting height vs the 20" bed height of the larger campers. They had to go to taller vinyl to get the same 6'4" interior height.

    Something I've been thinking about?

To answer some of the above. No my camper is not on full time. I have property and need a pickup often. I'd love a flatbed but I'd do a bigger truck if I was going that route. I'm retired and don't have the money to spend on a new camper. Especially when I have a fine one now. Same deal with...

    Something I've been thinking about?

I have a 2012 Eagle that's like new. I carry it in a very low mileage 2006 Tundra double cab. These trucks have a much wider bed than the mini trucks my camper was made for. They also have a 20" deep bed vs the 17" deep bed the Eagle was made for. So I have a platform to set the camper on. I...

    Would you buy another fwc

To answer the OP's question yes I would buy another if I needed it. But hope to use my Eagle till I can't anymore! Ron these should be the part numbers for the 40" struts the Eagle requires per Mr Buckland. Four Wheel Campers has a 40” ext. cyl. C16-31895, 20 lbs. C16-31896, 30 lbs. You might...

    160 Watt 12V Monocrystalline Solar Panel $115

being mostly electrically ignorant... can one explain (basically) what a shunt does in this application. (I understand that a shunt redirects electricity).... is it a spliced-in wire? A shunt is a very precise high amperage resistor. Precise enough that it allows measurement instruments to...
