New to this - Palomino Bronco questions

Here's a good discussion of mattress choices: http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/13808-couldnt-handle-it-any-longer/ Do a search on "tarps" and "awnings" and you'll find a number of options.

FWC Eagle and garage door height

Need more info. Is this a two car garage? Is there a gable above it? Living space? It's a pretty routine job to raise the header if you're a carpenter. If there's a roof eave over it, it's load bearing and you have to support the load with a temporary wall or header, and there's probably no...

    Looking for a FWC...

Take a look at cars.com for trucks. At that price it'll be a pretty high mileage vehicle. You might take a look at Fords. They don't get high ratings but I'm nearly done with my third Ranger since '87 and I'll be looking for a fourth. They were made by Mazda.

    Fleet height-need to count inches

IMHO you don't really know until you put the weight on the truck. My truck is jacked up a little and I worried about the FWC fitting through the garage doors but once I loaded it up, the truck settled quite a bit and there is enough clearance.

Good article on New Owners of FWC

The purpose of a company is to return a profit to it's owners. Period. Business 101.

Truck frame instead of seperate (-) wire

The conduction issue is also maintaining an electrical connection between dissimilar materials. I second using a dedicated wire rather than the chassis.

    Wiring color protocol ?

NEC Article 551.1 Scope. The provisions of this article cover the electrical conductors and equipment OTHER than low-voltage and automotive vehicle circuits or extensions thereof, installed within or on recreational vehicles, the conductors that connect recreational vehicles to a supply of...

    Wiring color protocol ?

There's a zero missing I think: 120/240v. Around here, only the McMansions need more than 200A service.

    Wiring color protocol ?

NEC Article 551 specifically excudes the wiring within the vehicles.

New or newish truck for my Eagle: mileage, power, fit questions

When I bought my first Ford ranger, a friend recommended I get the V-6 rather than a 4 cylinder. I'm now almost done with my third one. I've always gotten the V-6 and I'm glad I have. I haul an Eagle on this one and the last one and it handles it just fine. It hangs out the back a few inches...

    Wiring color protocol ?

I'm an electrical contractor so I think differently. I'm fine with the solar and all. Just not familiar with auto charging systems. I was surprised to find vehicle alternators that put out 200A and more. That'll run a small house!

    Wiring color protocol ?

I'm more curious about the choice of 4 ga. wire. The capacity of that is 70A. That's 840 watts at 12 v.

Camper storage - up or down?

For 18 years my Eagle has been kept outside, uncovered, with the top down. It's in good shape. Not so pretty, but in good shape.

Want to remodel my Eagle, advice needed!

I suggest a search on the individual issues on this and other forums. Regarding cabinets, if you are a good woodworker with a tablesaw, router, etc. you can design your own custom cabinet(s) and build a solid but light cabinet out of 1/2" Baltic birch. I think it's wise to take a hard look at...

    Couldn't handle it any longer....

I spent a lot of money trying different mattress configuration in my '99 Eagle. For a few years now I've used the Thermarest mattresses from REI same as Squatch. They've been the best solution. Not as convenient as the original design but the adjustable firmness is great. The spacer blocks on...

    Leveling without jacks

So I've been doing it wrong for 17 years? Figures.

    Leveling without jacks

I use my jacks every time I camp in order to level and stabilize my camper. This is especially necessary in the boondocks. I see a number of other FWC's with out jacks and I wander how y'all are able to level the camper where you camp?

Wheeling the camper into the truck

Adding the swing away brackets on the front jacks made my FWC much easier to back under. I picked them up in Woodland and they're available from Rieco.
