RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Engel refrigerators and solar systems.

In my camper (a 2002 Hawk) there is a fuse box. My load wires come from the fuse box and right now they go to the battery. When I hook up my charge controller the load wires will go into the controller then the controller is wired to the battery. So, in theory, if everything is wired...

I don't think all my "loads" running together equal 15 amps. I do not have a furnace, so that is 1 big draw I won't be using. Just LED lites, fridge (Engel), water pump, fantastic fan, and maybe the laptop and/or cell phone plugged in. I think I will be good. I have already written that space...

Leadsled & Dsrtrat, Thank you for the details!! VEry informative. I was planning on connecting everything that runs off battery to the load on my controller. I did get the same controller as you leadsled and also got the remote meter. I planned on mounting the controller in with my battery...

leadsled, I received my solar panel , charge controller, and have not hooked it up yet. I also have the DC Engel fridge. The Engel folks said an 80watt panle will be enough to keep the fridge running. We unfortunately do not have the solar pre-wiring, so I have not tackled the solar mount and...

Did you also purchase the remote meter and remote temperature sensor? No, I only got the MPPT controller and the panel. Don't want to get to techy with all that stuff. I barely understand what I'm getting into with this. What are the advantages of the temp sensor and remote meter?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West question about surepower/solar

In our 2002 Hawk we have the surepower 1314 to charge the house battery from the truck while we are driving. We are adding solar. With the solar charging the battery AND the truck charging the battery, how does that work? Will one override the other?Do the surepower and the solar work...

Ok, I went for it, bought the 120 watt panel for $222. When I called solarblvd, they only had 3 left at that price, so I got one of them. That leaves 2 for the taking!! leadsled, thanks for all the info. There is a marine store down the street that I plan to buy the 10awg wire from. Also...

Thanks for the write up. I don't have the pre wiring in my 2002 Hawk, so I am hoping it won't be too complicated!! Pulling the trigger today for the Mppt controller and an 80 watt panel. I'll let you know if I have questions!

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Never look at new trucks!

Yes We looked at a F-350 diesel,4 dr , 8 ft bed, dark blue (my favorite color). Then looked at the price.... $57,000!!!!! I could do alot of travelin' with that $$$! Went for a 2004 Tundra instead and have $$ left over... A new truck would be sweet though.

Thats funny, I thought the same thing about removing the screws!! D= is definitely not happening!. I might be back to getting a regular panel. I want to call the company and see if you could install it over the screws, but I know they will give a "void the warranty" type answer. Hmmm, will...

I like those stick 'em ones, but it says you need a flat rrof to install them on With the roof vents, luggage rack and crews every 12 in (width ways) apart, There is not enough space to stick it. It is pretty long, and 15.5 in wide. Any ideas?

I'm in the same boat on buying generic or getting "name brand". I might just bite the bullet and go for the "name". I am powering my Engel, so I need to optimize all the power possible. The Sharp 80 watt panel is 21 pounds while the BP 80 watt panel is 17 pounds. I think I will be going...

What do you think of eco-direct? Their prices were actually a little cheaper than solar blvd. I am looking at the BP 80 watt panel with the Sunsaver 15watt MPPT controller. A bit spendy, but I want it done right the first time!!

Barko Thanks for the link. They do have great prices. I was curious They have a Sharp 80W panel for $328 and aCynergy 80W panel for $199 (I think).. Can't see any major differences except that I have heard of Sharp So, in panels, are we paying for a "name brand" or is the Sharp a better...

Hi Lighthawk, It is much quieter. I do need to put some kind of rubber on the top where it touches the camper. It scuffed the paint off a bit. Just waiting for Spring to really do some traveling!!

We got a 2002 with most of the optionswe wanted and in excellent condition for that price. (A Hawk). You have to determine how much work are you willing to do to it and how much do you want tospend?!?! Living in Florida, finding this was like hitting the jackpot. In the end I will have put...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New Engel INSTALLED!

Leadsled9, I do not know the answer to your question. I have the 85 watt solar panel and one battery. I planned on connecting another battery (I guess it is as simple as connecting it in parallel) once I did the fridge install. Maybe Randy can comment on that. Frank I was told from Engel...

Lighthawk: Hope you don't mind, but I took some ideas from your wind deflector thing. Hadf the yakima racks, bought that basket (what a great place for stinky, wet waders, or dog food!), and had some plexiglass laying around so made a deflector. Nothing fancy, but I hope it works.. What do...
