RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Someone Stop me, Oops, too late!

Pods8, Super news on starting the floor! Good luck with it all. Couldn't tell you the brand, but I went with a pro shop here in Bend, so I guess "good quality" automotive paint. It is shiny. A little too shiny. Shows every single flaw or bump. The UV clear coat is what makes it all pop so...

Wow, that's really something! I wonder what the weight so far totals? will you be welding the final cabinet frames or making then from wood, fiberglass, what? I would love to make the interior frame out of aluminum and/or fiberglass, unfortunately I don't have a money tree. So, mostly wood...

Pods8, You are not wrong. If maximum safty is what you are after, then tying everything together is the way to go. The window frames that I am usinng are compression trims and will work somethat in that fashion too (not as stronng as material wrap though). I just can't imagine a localized...

Hey everyone, First off, thanks to DD for the help yesterday and the photos! Couldn't have done it without you and its always better shared with a fellow enthusiast. Have not been to the scale with it yet, but we are pretty sure the whole thing is only around 350-400 lbs. We will see soon...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West With a Camper?

Ya, go with the Alaskan, that thing won't even know its back there. You could try building your own out of an old U-haul cube. I've seen some guys do that. Ultimately it looks kinda like a Unimog. Home Skillet PS: That rig is sooooo cool.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West looking for a new truck

I am with everyone else on the gas mileage issue. You simply can't get above 15 with a 3/4 ton. I have a 1/2 ton Titan that will do up to 20 without a load and no tow. But with a camper only around 14 and if I am towing 5000 lbs (my old boat)then probably 12. The Titan does have 9500 lbs...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West The Perfect Fuel and Water Carrier?

Thanks for the link. Looks tough. $20 for the jug + $20-40 for a mounted holder = around $50. I guess if a person was to want to mount it on the side of a rig or camper then the RotopaX at $80 or so isn't that bad. Still, hard to beat Walmart for cheap gear. How to you strap it to your...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West The Perfect Fuel and Water Carrier?

This is what I have been using for water, 5.5 gallons. Online from Walmart, $19.95, straps on the bumper and has been secure for the last 20,000 miles :D . Spout is good for filling my FWC internal tank. Petrol, I have 38 gallons, that should be good enough. Was there a link to this thing?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West The Perfect Fuel and Water Carrier?

Great point. In my mind I had imagined putting one near the bottom of the rear wall (maybe less torqing around?). Other places were a good basket roof rack like on their website or even mounted on the truck somehow. With my new camper build there is no internal frame and the laminated design...

Love my subscription to the Overland Expedition Journal. I get to be the first hear about the latest expedition gear. (Shameless plug for the OEJ). The latest issue sneak peak showcases the new RotopaX protable fuel and water carriers. The thing that is so intrigueing about this setup is...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Another custom design, also part 1 design

Thinking about having a gray water tank as well with a bypass right to an external drain for areas where going right to ground is okay. Not sure if I want to put in a fixed tank, maybe 10gal or so, or try and do a removable tank of some sort. A fixed tank would make the best use of space but...

How much for the carbon fiber roof! Door sounds good. The whole camper is actually carbon fiber, so I'm not sure exactly what I spent on the roof, but I guess around $1800. Are you into some kinda project? Home Skillet

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Pop-Up Door Access Solution

Door Dimensions added to drawing: Pods8 is right. This is only for quick access when stopped and not wanting to pop the top. But lets face it. If you are wanting to get into the camper with top down, then you can't even stand up inside, so a small door makes sense for just putting stuff in...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Pop-Up Door Access Solution

So as most of you know I am building my own pop-up camper in my garage. It is a hard side pop-up and so I have the problem that I can't open the door without popping the top first. I wanted the tallest door that I could get and wasn't willing to do a double door like the Alaskan. My...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Custom camper project part 1: spec and design

I'm not sure where i got the name tuffy box but actually i'm using a Rubbermade Action Packer. I always bring one full of firewood and it usually sits on the bench seat in the camper and takes up a lot of space. In the new camper, it will go under the dinette seat, acessed by an external hatch...

What motive force are you looking at for the rams? Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic? How are you planning to balance them? I'm pondering jacking screws all tied together at the moment. Hey Pods8, I have been looking at using 12V DC linear actuator with 16 inch stroke and load limit of...
