RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for more storage

Here’s a pic of the cabinet. I had a cabinetmaker build it, I’m not that talented. Mayan 805-981-5444

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for more storage

When I built out my grandby, I bought a sheet of high quality plywood laminated on both sides from Mayan Hardwood in Ventura. There were many colors available. About $200.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Prospective buyer: Hawk or Grandby?

We have a tundra double cab, 8’ bed, grandby shell, 2 80lb labradors. Took out the back seat, built a hinged deck for the dogs, storage underneath. Kept the build basic to save weight. Amazed at how much more room we have than factory builds. More space doesn’t mean you ‘have to’ fill it. Take...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Point Reyes

Thanks for all this info. After a google earth search, I see that South beach and North beach along 10 mile beach are the areas I’m seeing cars drive. Unfortunately I don’t think camping is allowed there. Suppose I’ll get a site at Olema and day trip over to the beach. Still have a few more...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Point Reyes

I’ve been trolling king salmon near point Reyes the last couple weeks. My summer job. Looks absolutely beautiful and thinking I should take my wife and dogs camping there. Any suggestions? I think I read a trip report from Ski3pin awhile back. Not sure how to get there, where to camp, but get...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminum body F-150 and F250 and Steel eye bolts.

Whenever I bolt anything to aluminum on my commercial fishing boat, I coat the aluminum, washer, bolt with ‘rector seal’. Provides a barrier between the dissimilar metals that get drenched in saltwater everyday. Works well.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A nagging question...

Been reading WTW for a couple years now. Built out my 2017 Grandby shell with lots of help from these pages. I’m NOT planning on permanently bolting down my rig to the truck for a couple more years but.. There’s been much discussion on the need for a platform to place the camper on when...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removed the head banging push bar

After some trials I’ve modified some aspects of the new bar. My 2 75lb. Labs are supposed to sleep in the lower bunk yet at 5:30 each morning they seem to be in the upper bed with us. They were knocking the bar loose with their wagging tails as the front was only held up with Velcro, the rear...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic electric cooler for Fleet shell?

I have to agree with Vic here. I have a 50 quart ARB in my granby shell, mounted just inside the door, drivers side. Being able to to access it with the top down for a quick lunch or even loading it after a stop at the store is huge. I put the batteries and water storage forward for weight...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ladder or step?

I bought a drop hitch at harbor freight. Had a piece of aluminum diamond plate laying around. Went to a local bender to make it fit. About $50 total, wieghs 17#.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tundra rear seat removal

I removed mine and put in a dog platform. Plywood mounted to angle aluminum on a piano hinge. Elevated about 8” off the floor, plenty of room for our 2 75 lb. labradors and storage underneath. Tool box, hot water heater, dog ropes, first aid kit, jump starter with air compressor all...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Thermal Pak question...bottom velcro

We added an arctic pack this spring. It came with Velcro attached top and bottom and also enough Velcro tape to add along the top of the hard wall on both sides. I didn’t use (but saved just in case) the Velcro tape and attached the bottom Velcro to the 1” of carpet along the the top of the hard...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper overhang 'deflection' with regards to the truck roof

I also have a Tundra and decided to use that space for storage of a table. Took a standard Costco (approx 2’ x4’) table down to my local metal bender and we bent some 18 gauge stainless into Z shape. Then notched it to bend creating a back stop. We slide it in from the drivers side and strap it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First big trip in our grandby shell

Bought a new grandby shell a year ago in anticipation of wife’s retirement. Spent the past year outfitting it based on my experience as a fisherman, not a camper. While I’m fairly confident of my abilities on the ocean, I’ll admit to being clueless as a camper and just winged it as to fulfilling...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Alarm

I probably shouldn’t respond to this as I’m a relative newbie. But... I recently bought a propane detector. I was told they only have a 5 year life. Also, I believe propane sinks so opening a roof vent will do little to alleviate a propane leak in a camper. If your alarm is going off, check to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removed the head banging push bar

Slomo, I used 1/16 stainless cable. I’m a salmon troller and have a mile or so laying around. It’s 600 Lb test. The stops I used are brass that we crimp on. Not attractive but work well. I put one above and below to prevent the wire from migrating out of place. I also crimped on either side of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removed the head banging push bar

At the rally last week one owner removed his push bar over the bed and substituted a broom handle he kept elseware. Got me thinking about a way to stop banging my head on the push bar and I came up with this. A 1” square aluminum piece with a stainless steel cable attached to the aluminum frame...
