RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flat bed side door entry-Dream camper

A F350 S/C with a flatbed pop-up camper. Love it! Looking forward to reading some trip reports on where you will get to with this rig.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ATC Manx Flatbed Camper: 2nd Generation

Yes, it is like that for a reason. The door is there mainly to allow access to the right front bolt that secures the camper to the deck. The other five bolts that secure the camper are accessible without the need of access doors. I made the door larger than needed for that so I could see the...

The new flatbed hasn't been built yet but will be much like the one on my F150. The new truck.

A 2017 Ford Superduty. To keep the wheelbase as short as possible for offroad wandering, it's a Supercab short box. Even with the short 148" wheelbase the 7' 9" camper fits basically flush to the hitch so no loss of departure angle.

Installed the furnace. Built the rear seat box. Built the front seat box and checking to see if the water tank (cardboard box mock-up) water pump, fuse box, battery, cutoff switch and inverter all fits as planned. It's tight but ok. Making the cabinets from maple this time. The face...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ATC Manx Flatbed Camper: 2nd Generation

Picked up the new Manx Camper shell in Oct. The fine fellows at ATC supplied me with photos of the frame during construction. Got it home and put into the shop for the interior build during the winter. A few pictures of the finished empty shell.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My First FWC... How many custom "Shell" builds are there?

With all the space a flatbed camper has inside to put batteries, a furnace, water tank and cabinets while still having so much storage room left over, sounds like you are the perfect candidate for one. Like Casa Escarlata Robles Too said, talk to Marty at ATC. You can have whatever you want from...

From the paved highway 93, turn left onto Double Springs Pass Rd. and then right onto Horse Heaven Pass Rd. You will come to fork in the road....take the east fork and continue to the end of the road. You will be where the pictures were taken. I think it was only 24 kms in to the spot but it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 78" wide vs. 84" wide

I went with a width of 81" Didn't really need that much width inside the camper due to the amount of storage space in a flatbed camper but that allows the fenders of the deck to be wider than the rear tires of my F350 and still be narrower than the truck's mirrors when folded in.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's better than an All Terrain Camper?

It's a shell not a complete camper so ATC just installed the roof entry ports for the solar panels. I get to have the fun of doing the interior build including installing the solar system.

A lot of the changes to the frame were little ones to accommodate things like width and length adjustments to suit the F350, different window placement, water tank relocation, fridge being moved to opposite side of the camper, a larger propane tank, dual solar ports in the roof, etc. The bigger...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's better than an All Terrain Camper?

The truck was rated to get 26.65 mpg (22 mpg U.S.) on the highway empty and we got 20.2 mpg (16.8 mpg U.S.) on the highway with the camper on and fully loaded on our way to Utah. After getting home our combined mpg for the total trip was 18.83 (15.7 U.S.) which included 3 weeks of off road...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's better than an All Terrain Camper?

It came down to features for the price that made the decision to go 350 over 250. I certainly didn't need a 1 ton to haul the 150 lb estimated weight increase that the new camper will weight over my existing one on the F150. The F150 hauls the original camper around easily and 5.0 V8 gets...

The bed to the top of the camper is 54" without the fan. The bed to the cab over is 44". The cab over was made 2" deeper than normal.

Ordered the new camper shell seven months ago and went down to get it this past weekend from ATC. Lots of changes from the previous one and also changing from the F150 to a F350. Marty, Jeff and Chad did another excellent job. Starting the interior build in a few weeks and am shooting for...

East Fork Upper Pahsimeroi Valley in Idaho In the two years we have had our ATC camper we have camped in some very special places but this spot was the best place that we didn't hike or paddle to. Complete solitude. Our only visitors were a herd of elk.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Revisiting heavy duty trucks

That is the exact same conclusion I came to after much deliberation. The F250 would be enough to haul my camper, but after road testing both the F250 and F350, the ride is basically the same so why not get the higher payload. The upgraded transmission seems like a worthwhile added bonus too...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2017 Ford F 250 recall

Just finished driving the 2017 F250 SCSB gas engine with the camper package back to back with a F350 gas. The ride was very similar as far as stiffness. I was pleasantly surprised how much better the ride was from the 2016 models I have driven. If I were to buy one, I think the F350 would be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West All Terrain Camper Service******

I'm on that 7 month wait list for my new flatbed camper. Picking it up in early Oct. I am fortunate enough to have a ATC camper now so my summer trips won't be changed while I wait. With the excellent product that ATC makes combined with their stellar after sales service record, the word has...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ATC Manx

Because the new camper is slightly different in width and length, I will need a new deck. If I'm going go to the trouble to make a new deck, I will put it on a 2017 F150. The 2017 F150 has over 400 lbs more payload capacity in the same supercab configuration and now has 470 lb.-ft. of torque...

An epilogue....... of sorts. The first year of using our truck and camper was a total success! The F150 surprised us with how well it handled the 4x4 roads around Moab with the camper and all our gear. The fact that we got 21mpg over the entire trip was above our expectations too. It is no...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cooper ST Maxx?

I have read these tires are actually slightly taller than their size would indicate. Has anyone who has them found that to be true? Would really like to try these tires, but they are not offered in 265/70 18 (32.6") that I want to continue running. If they are a little taller than their 275/70...
