RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Solar Connector

I cut my MC4 connectors off the panels and wired to an SAE plug. When the 2 - 100 watt Renogy flexible panels failed they still warrantied them. Since then I have installed a 160 watt rigid and 120 watt flexible panel. Cut the ends off of those too and installed a SAE plug. They have been...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hitch Extension...Step...Camper protector

I was rear ended on the freeway in Salt Lake City last month. My hitch extension/step saved my truck and camper from extensive damage. After seeing the value of such a device I just finished building a custom step and camper protector using a 8" hitch extension and a solid steel step that fits...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Bike fork mount

I have since modified my bike hanging setup to carry a fat tire bike. These photos are from March 22nd when I was rear ended on the freeway in Salt Lake City. My hitch extension/step saved my truck and camper form extensive damage. I am going to start a new post to show the heavy duty hitch...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Bike fork mount

and for the rear tire I picked up a used track from a roof rack, cut it down and drilled holes to match the holes on the corner trim on the camper bottom. Removed the existing screws, used some longer screws and washers to shim out the track. The photo with the bike on it is from last November...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Bike fork mount

I mounted the same type on my hawk and hang a bike on the back. Instead of washers I would use a piece of aluminum or stainless bar stock on the inside. I am attaching a photo of the rear frame which shows you where the top tube is that you should drill through for support. If anyone needs more...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar panel longevity?

The flexible panels are so much lighter that I would use them if they hold up as you need to mount either type of panel with an airspace underneath.....So now I have a 160 watt traditional panel that is heavy but has held up well for two years and a new 120 watt lightweight flexible panel from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Synergy 120 Flexible panel mount

So I decided to add another solar panel - a Solar Synergy 120 watt flexible panel. Before I explain the mounting here is my solar history. I bought my hawk used in October of 2014. Over the winter I installed 2 Renogy 100 watt flexible panels - direct glued to the roof. They worked well for part...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Older Hawk won't fit in newer Chevy

I bought I used Hawk for my 2011 chevy silverado from a person who also had a 2011 silverado. The factory built his with a 'chevy notch' to accommodate the rounded tailgate opening and keep from having to shim up the camper. Perhaps FWC could provide the details of what they do otherwise the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West One Last Attempt: Has anyone used their FWC water system in below freezing temps?

Wow....I don't post much but it bothers me that you are so disrespectful to Stan... he seems to try hard to help those who can help themselves. It gets very cold here in Wisconsin so just I drain my system...not worth risking the damage from freezing. You don't need a schematic just...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Long hot summer has me thinking...

I don't think you noticed but it's water cooled...that's why it so small...instead of a condenser coil that uses air to remove the heat you need to run water through it...that's why it makes sense in a boat...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bike rack on a flatbed?

I just bought a 1up rack to carry my fat tire bike and am very impressed with it. It's very well made and so easy to use. I have a chevy with a hawk on the back. I also have the harbor freight 2" receiver extension with a step on it. The handlebars clear the camper and the door opens far enough...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting solar panel

I mounted my 160 watt panel last year without penetrating the roof. I used channel brackets and added an angle clip to the other side of the channel on the bottom to create more surface area in contact with the roof. 5 brackets on each side - made sure they were above the support ribs. I used an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Paint

I beat mine up pretty bad getting my flexible panel off. (as you can see on the attached photo) Since the roof is aluminum and we don't have to worry about rust I am not really concerned, it's just cosmetic.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Wiring - pictures?

I bought a used 2011 Hawk in late 2014 that I added a trimetric and solar collectors to last winter. My hawk had the solar plug in the back and none on the roof. Using the wtw site I was able to find access to the wires and add a plug to the roof. I was also able to to remove the wood panels...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lift Struts

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Flexible Solar Panels - successes and warranty replacements

So I replaced my dead flexible panels with the traditional type, a 50 watt Renogy that I plan to use as a portable using the back plug and a 160 watt Infinium Solar Panel that I mounted to the roof between the vents. I used some small aluminum channels and angles that I picked up from a boating...

I put a them on my 2011 Chevy silverado half ton with a fwc hawk camper. I think they work well, when my camper is off they have no impact but when the camper is on and loaded it rests on the timbrens and it helps - easy!
