RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jacking up a Tacoma

I've actually considered one of these for my truck instead of a winch or a high lift jack. https://www.wyeth-scott.com/index.asp

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerator Vent Locations and Aluminum Framing on Hawk

Thanks guys for the info. I didn't get anything done today on the camper. We went salmon fishing and I'm so tired I feel like a zombie right now. Early bedtime!! I'm going to call FWC tomorrow to see if I can get some idea on where the vent bays are located. I actually may wait until I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerator Vent Locations and Aluminum Framing on Hawk

I'm about halfway through with my refrig install (3.0 cu ft, 2-way) and I am now in the process of trying to determine where, how and if FWC pre-configures the side of the camper for the refrig vents. Looking at an older pict on the FWC website...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West auxiliary gas cans

My RotoPax have held up fine. The only issue with them is the CARB compliant nozzle that comes with them. There's a way around this...if anyone is interested PM me. Any tank is going to build pressure when they get hot or when you go up in altitude. I've gone from where I live (6 feet...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2nd Spare Tire

I have a TireGate HG for my second spare and two 6 gallon cans of either fuel and/or water. Fully loaded it's a lot of weight and possible too much for a Tundra with a camper. Just the TireGate with a tire and no water is likely fine, but still pretty heavy. I've been all over on hunting...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West auxiliary gas cans

Leadsled, Are you sure it was a RotoPax brand tank and not a Koplin brand tank? They look similar but the Koplin is junk! I've got a couple RotoPax that I've painted dark olive to match my Honda quad and they have never done anything but work perfectly...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat & Battery Monitor Questions

I'm by no means an expert on this as I'm just starting adding to my newish hawk. First off I can tell you from my own experience that I would get the solar plug on the roof and on the back wall. I wouldn't get FWC's solar set up either. You can get so much more for less money if you do it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Separator and Possible Stray Current Draw

Thanks dsrtrat for the info, but I have a couple of comments. I'm a little confused because Ski3pin said the separator is uni-directional, but your info makes it sound like it's bi-directional. Also, the amp draw I was seeing also occurred when I disconnected the camper from the truck. Once I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Moving from F150 to bigger truck

My Hawk fits my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel short bed perfectly. I know not a Ford, but thought I'd throw a plug out there for Dodge diesels!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

Well the refrig comes tomorrow (Isotherm Cruise 85) and so do my new Yakima racks. I had the tracks installed at FWC, but held off on the other rack components until now so I could use an REI gift card and our REI dividends. I ended up saving about $250 on the rack components doing it this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Separator and Possible Stray Current Draw

No worries. I'll post the results up. Without the Trimetric unit I would have been blind to this situation. Who knows this could be nothing in the end, but it'll be nice to know for sure.

I called SurePower and spoke with them. They were very helpful. From that call I need to check a few things to see what is going on and I'll report back once I know.

Model 1314A. From what I can tell the recall does not affect mine.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Separator and Possible Stray Current Draw

I just went out there and wiggled the wires all around the battery separator and could not get a fluctuation in current draw on the Trimetric. I'm guessing this has to do with separator being warm, but I'm not sure. I've got a call into SurePower to see what they say.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Separator and Possible Stray Current Draw

I put the Hawk on this weekend and went fishing with a friend. When I got home I jumped into the camper to clean things up and I noticed that the Trimetric unit was showing a draw of -0.6 amps. I thought everything was turned off, so I double checked and found that everything was turned off...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

I've used the solar calculator I found on this site to determine my needs. I've ran a variety of scenarios through it based on staying in a northern latitude in the late fall and also the lower latitudes when it's hotter and each time I do it I come up with a recommended solar panel of 150 to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

I can see the benefit of the portable solar panels and facing them toward the sun. However, I want something simple that will work without effort and something that wont take up space in the camper or my truck. Right now I think the 160 watt panel on the roof will get me what I want. I am...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanted newish Dometic small 2 or 3 way fridge BC

Thanks Captm, but from my measurements I can get an Isotherm 85 to fit and leave me with nearly all the depth of the counter top cubby-hole above it. I think I may loose just an inch. With the existing ice box there is a huge waste of space between the upper part of it and the bottom of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanted newish Dometic small 2 or 3 way fridge BC

Captm, I think with my camper I'm going to be forced to vent to the exterior unless I want to drill holes or cut out vents in the cabinets, which I don't want to do nor think they'd be big enough. I'm on board with you and have been trying to figure out how to design a vent with an intake and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

Thanks Mark for getting this topic back to the point of large solar panels. I think I'm about sold on the 160 watt panel and a 15 amp Morningstar MPPT controller. This should power whatever 2 way refrig I buy and charge my batteries. My main concern was needing more solar wattage due to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

Very interesting info and for me to go with a 2-way refrig and solar is even more of a no-brainer! I'd stress out way to much about the 3% thing and probably wouldn't sleep.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanted newish Dometic small 2 or 3 way fridge BC

I called both Dometic today and Isotherm and actually talked to a real person. Based on that conversation I think the Isotherm is going to be the refrig for me. It has the smallest freezer and the most refrig space, which is what I really want...a lot of refrig space. The Isotherm also has a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

Wow, Bill I didn't know that a 3-way cooler uses the 12v or 110v to heat the gas in the system. I thought on 12v or 110v it was running an inefficient compressor. Based on this and the need to be level how does one drive down a hilly/mountainous road and still keep the refrig running?

Does a 3 way refrig draw DC current from the truck when your driving?
