Pre super duty Fords have a different style of front axle in the f250, not just different springs.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Brophy Stake Pocket Tie Downs - good idea?

I used a set on a 2002 f150 with a sub 1000lb camper. Even with a light camper it was starting to distort the pockets. I think they were an ok product when truck were made without gas mileage concerns.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Camper step

I have the same step and it stays on the truck full time. I would suggest getting the Reece ball that interlocks with the step. The step comes with a crappy plastic spacer to use with other balls but it does not stay tight. I recently upgraded to the Reece ball, just $8 at Lowes.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Air compressors

A couple things I learned while looking for a portable compressor: 1. A compressor with alligator clips pulls more amps which means more power to the compressor. A compressor that only plugs into a cigarette plug will be really slow. If it does not have alligator clips or then save it for...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 77 GMC, Alaskan CO and a boat

Steel scrap is about worthless right now you could get your $1,000 for scrap only if that truck was pure lead. 70k on an odometer that rolls over at 99,999, most like rolled 2 or 3 times. $1,000 for a rusty 2wd truck that does not run and may not stop, good luck with that. I bet those fast...

Looks like a $400 truck and a $300 boat and a rotten camper that would need a complete rebuild.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Porpoising on highway with Hawk shell

If the swaying is side to side you need stiffer tires with more air and maybe a sway bar. If the bucking is the weight of your camper commpressing your rear susupension to the point it lightens your front suspension then you need stiffer rear springs. I used the cheap add a leafs on my last...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New Hallmark Ute

I have used K&N filters on cars, trucks, and motorcyles. I have one in the car and the truck as I type They do breath a little better than a standard paper filter. However, how can they allow more air to pass through the filter and still filter as well as a paper filter? I would encourage...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Not happy with my Engel!

I'll take that noisy engel off your hands. My Engel lasted two seasons then developed a bad "growl". I thought I had it narrowed down to the fan. I contacted Engel and they sent me a new fan for a nominal fee. Replaced the fan but something in there is still very noisy. I didn't use it...

Junk. A buddy of mine has one. I'm not sure of the mileage on the clock, but gaswise it is mucho thirsty. Ten maybe eleven mpg, and that is with the V6 automatic.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How much wilderness protection is too much?

I'm not advocating mining or building more roads or for the destruction of natural resources in general. I am in favor of continued access of the land that is now available. I like to be able take my camper down some remote forest road, and I like to ride my motorcycle to explore as well. I...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How much wilderness protection is too much?

Here's what Oregon Wild has to say on their website: "As leaders of the statewide Wilderness coalition, we seek permanent protection for Oregon's forested roadless areas larger than 1,000 acres. We also work to provide ecosystem restoration of public lands adjacent to core wilderness areas in...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How much wilderness protection is too much?

First it was mining, then logging, then OHV, then travel management, and now new wilderness areas and expansion of existing wilderness areas. They are taking a step by step approach and they are succeeding. They are playing a game of divide and conquer by singling out one group of users at a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Camper Shifting Issue

Good idea. Seems like FWC/ATC should be doing this at the factory. After reading all these posts on tie down problems why not just bolt thru the floor? Old school, that's how FWC did it for years and years. I never once had a problem with my four elevator bolts (I did have a rubber bed mat)...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

The brakes guys is trying to compare his undersized half ton (2000 tundra) to his over-sized f250. Apparently he has not looked at half-tons since 2000 since he thinks a f150 does not have the brakes to haul a 1500 pound camper. Yes an f250 will haul it better and more safely, but a f550 would...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

I have pored over the specs on Fords pdf's and unless I am not understanding brake techinal speak I see very little differences. In fact, the 2012 F150 now has a slide in camper approved package that has a pretty large payload - an increase of well over 400 pounds comparing the same trucks side...

I enjoy driving my 3/4 ton WAY more than driving my 1/2 ton.....even around town. Yeah, I can't imagine driving your 12 year old underpowered toyota is much fun. I was talking about driving a newer F150, they ride as nice as most cars.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

The newer F150s are plenty stout to haul 1500lb campers around. I cannot comment on the ecoboost. Do you research and compare the tow/haul capabilities of a new half ton truck to the 3/4 ton and 1 tons from the mid-nineties that had similar payloads with rear drum breaks and weak automatic...
