I have a Four Wheel Eagle on order, so while I wait I thought I would fabricate a step for getting into the camper. Made it to slide into my hitch. It is all aluminum and weighs less than 9 lbs.. It measures 12" x 18"

How much are you going to charge? That looks way nicer than the commercial ones!

Naw - that's about what I would charge. Think early retirement!

Harbor freight sells a hitch extension with a built in step. I got one and it works great and it was only about $30.

I have that one too.
I also built a rack to carry my Rotopax gas cans. It has a step built into it.

My very unprofessional home made step. Slides in for storage, out for use. Skateboard grip tape on top. Won't win any design awards, but gets the job done.

I've posted it in the past, but this is what I built:

The "diamond plate" grip tape came from HF, but I don't see it on their page. I have since added a cleat that stops the insertion *right* where the pin holes all align. Makes it much, much easier to put in the pin (we travel with it flipped over).

I just ordered a Reece hitch step that allows us to tow as well. If anyone wants a review I can do it after bashing my shins a few times! www.amazon.com/Reese-Towpower-7060200-Hitch-Step/dp/B00ECW2T38

I have the same step and it stays on the truck full time. I would suggest getting the Reece ball that interlocks with the step. The step comes with a crappy plastic spacer to use with other balls but it does not stay tight. I recently upgraded to the Reece ball, just $8 at Lowes.

^Ditto on the Reese hitch step. We love ours. Looks really nice, is fairly grippy, even when wet, and is a nice cheap step. As with all ball mounts though, it will absolutely destroy your shins and your afternoon if not careful.

The DH builds things that work. The bottom step comes out when we use the utility trailer and the hitch forms the step. He's thinking of reworking it so the ball is built into that step instead...we'll see.
