Newbie with questions about purchasing a FWC.

We leave our Hawk on the Tundra full time. We've had it 4 years now and spend at least 30 nights a year in it. Aside from camping, it's great to have to be able to haul along a place that you can stop and fix an impromptu picnic, or have your own porta-potti and a place to use it. We go snow...

Dometic 3 way a DC power hog!

I plug into shore power the day before we leave on a trip to get the fridge down to temp and get it loaded, from that point on it runs on propane. Period. In all my years of trailer and camper travels, including 4 years of extended trips and a ton of rough roads and off-roading with the FWC I've...

Conkle Lake Provincial Park for the weekend. One of only 3 overnight visitors in the whole campground. It was well worth the visit.

Suspension upgrade options -- help me choose...

Pretty much this exactly. I put the Dakar leaf packs on my Tundra, and added the airbags on cradles just for some additional support if needed. The leaf packs do the majority of the job, I wanted to be sure if we are out in the middle of nowhere and have an airbag issue, we are still ok. Having...

    Alaska 2021

We drove north to Tuk in July 2018 from our home in Southern BC. We took 3 1/2 weeks and it was barely enough time. We drove North up the Cassiar and then returned back down the Alcan Hwy. I much preferred the Cassiar, but I Guess it's worth taking both routes (these are the only 2 roads to get...

    Think I'll stay home

We have been extremely lucky up here in BC this year. As opposed to years past where it felt we were completely on fire. Well, we were extremely lucky here at home up until a couple days ago, when this thing sparked off. Our fire crews are doing such a fantastic job on this, they are really to...

    Thank you Canada!

Wow. We usually keep that sort of money, buy a ton of Cheezies and split them amongst ourselves. Hope everything gets squared away one of these years and you are able to make it back up here. My Wife and I are hoping for a time down the road when we can get back to the Oregon Coast.

Truck Battery, need to replace mine, any recommendations?

I run Deka Intimidator AGM batteries from East Penn in both my current Tundra and previously owned Xterra. No issues at all, ever with either. No cold weather starting issue either. I'm an MK power mobility equipment battery dealer, so I have had a relationship with East Penn going on 20 years...

Tailgate camera use with tailgate off?

Camera Source makes a plug & play unit for the Tundra. Very quick and easy to install, and it comes with a long lead wire. I have mine connected to the right underside of the camper. I ran the wiring up and through the right brake light housing. If I ever take the camper off (which I rarely do)...

    awning advice

One more pro for the Fiamma that I just recalled. If you are ever stuck in a traffic construction lineup, or waiting in a ferry lineup, or find yourself camped close to a tree, etc... you can partially deploy the Fiamma out. I don't see that being possible with any of the full wrap-around awnings

    awning advice

My Wife (who is 5' 4" or so) was dead certain she wanted a Bat-Wing style awning when we were getting ready to order our camper. Our dealer let her try to deploy and both a Bat-Wing and then the Fiamma awning..... and within seconds she changed her mind. For me, the Fiamma is the simplest and...

    AT Overland Propane mount bracket

I have the 10 pound AT Overland tank holder. I used flat aluminum stock for the upper and middle cross connecting pieces, and used a 90* L aluminum stock for the bottom piece. I don't always leave it on, but have put thousands of miles on with it attached, with no issues at all.

Towel push baar on back screen door?

Just make sure to line it up and attach it with the screen door closed, not open. Don't ask me how I know this is a good idea.

OK to Jack-up Truck on Rear Leaf Spring?

Keep a lightweight jackstand with you in the truck. Then you can use your bottle jack to jack the truck up slightly from the leaf spring, place the jackstand under the axle, then move the bottle jack under the axle and keep jacking it up. I bought a set of these lightweight aluminum jackstands...

Using Receiver Hitch As A Lifting Point With A High Lift Jack

No, I took the oem bottle jack out. I only carried the one. It was all thanks to a Toyota tech who overtightened a previously installed cv boot clamp which then broke off and I started leaking grease everywhere. We were able to temporarily fix it, fill it with grease and limp into the Toyota...

Using Receiver Hitch As A Lifting Point With A High Lift Jack

I have a Hi Lift and an attachment bracket for it on my Hitchgate. Having said that, my Hi Lift lives 99.9% of its, life in the garage. (though the handle makes the best breaker bar) I carry an 8-ton bottle jack from Canadian Tire in the truck, along with a lightweight aluminum Torin Big Red...
