    Fire Extinguisher

I am with Jonathon. Bought two of the smaller units. One in the cab of the truck, one in the camper shell. I left the little dry chemical that came with the camper mounted for now, but it will go when it is expired.

Best All Terrain Tire for Snow

One critical wears aspect for me has been tire pressure. If you change sizes, take a look at the TOYO tire charts and find the correct pressure for your weight and that size tire. Placard pressure on the larger tires I started running was eating the centers up really fast. Dropped about 8-10...

Best All Terrain Tire for Snow

KO2, but I burned them up super fast at 5 tons. Wrangler duratrac is also good, but 2 ply sidewall, even though e rated, lead to puncture issues and sloppy ride aired down only a couple pounds. Ran a grabber ATX that did well, currently on Cooper at3 XLT. Living at 6200 in the Sierra. Traction...

    RAM2500, slide-in and sway

2016 2500 ram CTD with hawk, recently replaced stock shocks with bilstein 4600’s. No airbags, no additional sway bar, no big deal before or after the shocks.Camper almost levels the truck front to rear. 90,000 miles over five years this way, camper on full time. I added sumo springs to deal...

    Overloaded

Point of info, 4th and probably 5th gen rams are having an issue with the frame. FWC”s test, demo rig suffered a broken frame at less than 60k miles as I recalll about 1-2 years ago. there are a ton of what appear to be grossly overloaded TCls running around and not failing. I wonder if FCA...

Jerry Cans - The secret Weapon

One more data point These are great fuel cans, but after 3-4 years of being mounted on my camper, and on the truck continuously, both the can and the mount from wavianusa, have rusted significantly and are probably nearing failure point, replacement time. Not really a buy once and never again...

New to 4WC and RV in General

Re: Shade effect on solar panel. Depending on which little squares get shaded, panel capacity can be reduced by well over 50 percent blocking as little as a square foot of the panel. Try it sometime with a washcloth or something. It is pretty eye opening.

    Ghost In My Roof Vent

On the fantastic fans, there is a little plastic hook on the edge of the interior trim ring which does not appear to have a purpose. I was told it is to secure the crank handle and prevent the vent from opening during transport of camper/trailer when new. I think i got that from the guys at FWC...

    Utah Snowboard Camping Trip

There are a fair number of reasonable airbnb type things near the mouth of cottonwood canyon. I even stumbled across one a bit ago that was essentially a concrete pad next to someone’s house with utilities available.

furnace won't light at elevation and cold

Scame here, 2018 hawk up to 10,300 ft but not so cold and I replaced the analog thermostat with a digital. Key is lithium batteries which will continue to operate properly at low temps. N=2 I think that the design of the low amperage model heater, which is already operating at a minimal airflow...

Won't rotate tires with camper on?

Discoint tire in Sparks, NV just uses a lift to get the front up a few inches, then a couple floor jacks for the rear. You only need a few inches for a rotation. As an aside, my 2016 ram 2500 CTD with FWC front dinette hawk is almost exactly 50:50 weight distribution, so would not be a big deal...

    Door Lock Options

Update to my post of a year ago. It has been about 16 months since I modified the lock as above, and lubed with Bo-shield. That is two tahoe winters, and a lot of summer driving. On the truck continuously, covered in grime, etc. The lock is still buttery smooth with no freezing occurring. I...

Truck doesn't talk to the camper

I would use 4 awg wire. Use welding cable as it is significantly more flexible than automotive cable and will make the job easier. blocking as little as a square foot of the panel may completely shut it down as far as solar charging. I have validated this by placing a cloth over the panel on...

FWC Electrical basics and upgrading to lithium!

KP is a great, innovative resource for these electrical upgrades, I am lucky to have him nearby. The manifesto he posted above is a well thought out roadmap to upgrading your electrical system based on KP”s several years of research, work and hands on experience with a ridiculous number of...

Hot water heater and water pump selection

Here is another option. https://elwellcorp.com/product/timberline-binar-5-compact/ KP Pawley, upfitter/electrical installer from Reno just installed this in his own flatbed. Looks nice. Diesel or gas. Eliminates the need for LPG. He went induction for the cooktop.

    New Dimmable LED light removal

The “fix” with the previous style was to slide the lens out and insert a strip of colored light gel. Have not seen the new ones, but if the lens is removable a similiar fix should work. Alternately you could place a layer of gel over the top, or possibly find some self adhesive gel. 1/2 or 1 CTO...

What are the best sources of air lines, manifolds and fittings for on-board air?

Is there a tool to form the flare in any copper tubing used? Also, is it common to use copper as an initial connection, or is steel frequently used? Also, what length is typically needed to isolate the heat from the tubing at the compressor? Thanks Reason for all the questions is that I have...

    Mosquitos

I get that it is not a “cloud” per se, but it is an area of vaporized, therefore still wet, material about 15 feet in diameter. My point was just to make people aware that it is a potential source of contamination in aquatic settings. Always a balance. As mentioned above, I did not see any...

    Mosquitos

Please be aware that the active ingredient in this is a pyrethrin type material, d-allethrin. Relatively safe for you, although not recommended for indoor use, but HIGHLY toxic to fish and aquatic insects of all types in minute doses. Based on how these work, heating up and dispersing a cloud of...

Is grounding to my 80/20 cabinets safe?

I think that if you do this, your eventual post will be “ why does my …fill in the blank…electrical apparatus sometimes work and sometimes not? “ build in a dedicated electrical area with a ground that connects to your vehicle grounding system then wire in home run circuits to a bus type...
