We have a driving truck.
My custom made steel pieces to marry the old Grandby camper to the new steel frame are done as well, so I can go back to the camper build.

Hey Chobro, as it sits I think it is pretty close to the stock bed weight or a little under. it feels about 250 now, and when we pulled the stock bed, we guestimated 250-275 lbs. My goal was to stay at stock weight. If I had time I would have run it through a scale, but too much hassle

Thanks, yes the new flatbed bolts to the stock location mounts as well, so going back is possible. I even saved the bed in case the project takes a wrong turn

More destruction!
Well, got to looking closer at the door area and the propane box, what a mess. Door frame cracked and most screws spun, so decided to yank it all. The original propane tank enclosure was a hack install from the factory and was poorly supported. They mis-located it, so just hacked on of the supports to make it fit. The rear lower frame has some fracturing as well, but my new support should take care of that.
Not sure if re-installing the propane box is the way to go. has a bunch of holes, so not exactly gas fume proof. Need to ponder that one.

Your truck bed looks very nicely done, and must be a good feeling and relief to have it mounted on the truck. Hope that now your attention can shift back to the camper, that you can make progress on that part of the build as well. It's a long drawn out process, but there certainly is a lot of pride and satisfaction as you cross each hurdle. Keep up the good work, your craftsmanship is obvious!

Well my friends, we have a Base!!
After all those sleepless nights, my custom U channel design worked out perfectly, and slipped in like a glove. Everything is tacked and ready for tear down and finish off the welds. Will need to add quite a bit of light angle steel in spots to support the floor etc, and maybe a few more wall straps to have screw points for whatever I end up using as wall skin.
Definitely a boost of the morale

Gonna be spacious for sure.
Departure angle looks good too. Sits 36" off the ground.
Now need to design the install/Remove quick release system

It'd be pretty cool if you had some fold down legs that would pop down as you slide it off of the back, or collapse up as you pull it back on, kind of like the gurneys do when they roll into an ambulance, and then you just lock it in. Are you doing the standard lifter setup on the four corners to remove it form the truck?

Thanks, this is the plan. Will have removable casters as well for when at home. I just need to figure where the legs will store if I take them with me on a trip with a plan to drop the camper at camp. The 4 receivers are already welded in the frame.

The plan for exterior storage is these aussie type Ute boxes below the bed. My whole target has been maximum interior space and simplicity, so I decided to bring the walls straight down, and deal with exterior storage later if needed. Yes, there will be 2 nice spots in the corner for storage, maybe a porta poti etc. Alum signs were bought at my local recycler, I left one still skinned for character

For sure. One thing I'll mention ... we have a camper deck with similar under boxes ... when the camper is not on (off season), those boxes are really useful. Kinda like having a car trunk for keeping things out of sight like, say in a sketch parkade or lonely trailhead.
