No. It isn't the replacement that is the problem, it is that there are a fair amount of surface-mount electronics in the existing one with no clear indicator of what does what.

another member was talking about his heat outlet being close enough to the thermostat that it shut the heat off quickly, too quickly for him. I wonder if this is a opportunity for some creativity?

Doing that could make it cycle lots, not the greatest for efficiency or noise. Interesting thought though.
