Found a great deal on some American Mojave's on CL recently, added a 2.5" leveling kit up front and 2" lift in the back and slapped some 285/75/16's on. Just what the doctor ordered. Ready for Baja this Summer...

Looking good and is something I've considered also. Just one question. Frome looking at Tundra Solutions and based on the name, I thought the 2.5 inch leveling kit in the front was all I would do. Then maybe go 33's all around. By adding the 2" in the back, does it still have the same old stance with the front end lower? Can you fit 33's in back without a lift?

I snooped around quite a bit in Tundra Solutions too before hand. I thought i would just go with just the front initially but my 4x4 guy recommended the rear blocks for stance and to keep the airbags "thinking" nothing was different suspension wise. The stance is entirely different even witht the 2" in the back, no lower front end. The 285/75's are essentially 33's, I'm pretty sure they would have fit in the rear without a lift.

the concern with 33" or 285's is clearance/rubbing on the upper control arm (i think that what it's called) you may need wheels with additional offset or a spacer if you're using stock wheels. again Tundra solutions has alot of information. I've looked at mine in the past and do not have the clearance for a larger tire so some day i'll probably buy the spider spacers and up size the tires. but than again i sort of like what i have, and start think about about loss of low end and gas mileage??

Roger that. Tundra Solutions says you need 4" back spacing which my Mojaves have and you also need to do the pinch weld mod which i also did, with those criteria met there is no control arm rub. The one thing i did not read anywhere about but I am experiencing is frame rub with the wheel maxed hard left only. Nothing when maxed right. Not a big deal as the surface that makes contact is very smooth and flat and it is easy to correct, just back of a little and you are clear. Thought it was funny it had not been mentioned anywhere with all of the other minutia that is covered.

Also ran a ODO/Speedo calculator for the tire change which says your speed is 2.2 MPH under when showing 60MPH. After 10K miles the ODO will be off 360 miles (short)

You are right though, your rig loooks great, why mess with perfection???

Google search link attached on the subject and a couple of other related links w/ pics. Basically you are just removing a potentially sharp edge that MIGHT come into play in an extreme situation. I didn't go to the trouble of cutting anything...i just beat the crap out of it with a small sledge and bent it out of the way. Problem solved.

Looks good Sunman. A good friend of mine, I'll call him Ike, put new rims and tires on his truck. He got a flat and went to change the tire and found his lug wrench did not fit the new bolts. Keep that in mind. You don't want to have to hike out for help. He had to leave his dog, Diego, at the truck.

Ha Ha...good call Mike! I bailed a guy out once in Baja with the same problem...he was a LONG way from anywhere and extremely lucky my totota wrench just happened to fit his new lugs. I never forgot that very tough lesson. Already bought a new Gorilla wrench to cover me and anyone else I may come across. Now i just need to find me a nice used BFG 285 spare to even things out.

**Another other thing to consider when getting new wheels is even if the lugs are the same size the access hole may be too small for your standard lug wrench, you may need thin walled sockets to get access to the lugs.**
