Alaskan 8.5' on a 6.5' bed, F150 ?

I'm looking at putting a 2013 Alaskan 8.5' on a 2013 Ford F150, 6.5' bed. I plan to upgrade the truck suspension to handle the weight, but I also want to be sure the camper's center of gravity is not behind the rear wheels. That would cause lift off the front wheels and bad for steering of course.
Any feedback if this setup I am thinking of is a dumb idea!?

Not 'dumb', but perhaps ill-advised? I have 16" overhang w/ my FWC Grandby, but it's a barebones Shell model with nowhere near the mass of an Alaskan. Unsure if there are enough suspension fixes out there to address your situation, but I'll let other folks chime in on that aspect.

I have an eight foot cab over on a six and a half foot Chevy 2500 with suspension upgrades. I like the shorter wheelbase turning radius and ground clearance, but a half ton will be overloaded. I ran my non cab over on my son in laws half ton ford with air bags and it was maxed, worked but wouldn't recommend it. Center of gravity was ok on both trucks. Son in law later bought a eight foot cab over and put in on a one ton ford, that is nice.

Thanks for the info and saving me from making a big mistake. Here are the weights of the Alaskan 8.5'. Too much for my F150.


Dry Weight: about 1800 lbs


Wet Weight: about 2000 lbs

I would suggest that you call the manufacturer and find out where the COG is for a start. On my 8.5G’ Hallmark Everest, which is lighter than the Alaskan the COG is 37” from the front. I have mine on a F-350 with an I ft bed and like the way it rides.

I don’t think a 6.5 ft bed on a f-150 is a good choice...just MHO
