OK....stick with me, I have been trying my damnedest to understand the various functions of my new battery charging/monitoring system in our '16 Hawk. Along with what really constitutes the best set-up for the devices used and why these settings truly make a difference. In short how do the components integrate and why are specific settings critical and preferred.
We just had the following Victron devices added to replace the FWC as delivered system with IOTAQ4, Zamp Controller and 2 AGMs: AC/DC 12/25 Blue Smart IP67 Charger; Smart Solar MPPT 100/30 Controller; OrionTR Smart Non-Isolated DC-DC Charger 12/12 30 and a BMV-712 Smart Monitor [that I already had installed] and a BB 100ah heated battery. I have two solar panels on roof, both Zamp and in parallel: 160w and 170w.
I understand the benefits of LiFeP04 over AGM batteries.
What I can't grasp is why a few tenths of a volt [14.2 vs 14.6] in the charge settings or a couple of %s in the Tail setting [2% vs 4%] or why a 30 mins [vs 1 hour] Absorp time is best and how these can produce an integrated system that will provide optimal SOC and battery longevity. What is the data and how to separate fact from opinion?
Lastly a nod to KP's crew; they did a great install of my new system for me and their work was top notch.
In the end my intuition tells me that it is very difficult to screw up charging a BB battery with the BB integrated Battery Measurement System [BMS] and their "breaker" protections for temperature and voltage extremes. Even the BB heater has a max and min temp shut-down; plus an 'off/on' switch.
{Interesting, I just saw that if a BB is constantly used at 100+*F temps 30% of service life will be lost and at 0*F only 70% of watts will be available and at 32*F only 85% of watts will be available, but 100% SOC can still be restored by charging the battery at normal moderate temps.}
