Ok, so I just ordered a new Raven. I have read about and was told about the boot rubbing issue by Fred at the Factory. I know many of you have just discarded it. Has anyone found a way to prevent it? I haven't even seen what the boot looks like yet, so I am at a bit of a disadvantage as far as try to work out a solution, but couldn't duct tape be taped to the truck where the boot makes contact and thus prevent paint rub?

I ended up taking the boot off my order after reading about that. I noticed some inflatable "donuts" that I might get as a temp seal when camping. Something like:
Das Boot

Here is something that may work... http://www.topvinylfilms.com/products/Static_Cling_Vinyl-20-11.html

This works but it has to be applied carefully and often.

Yeah, but it would be more fun though!

I put a shell with boot on my Tacoma right after I bought it. I was not told and did not realize the damage these things do. Looking at it for the first time 4 years later I'm surprised at the wear. It's ok as long as the shell/boot is not removed, but it would definitely require painting if every removed.

I would never get another boot. Besides, they squeak like crazy...
