Breaking Tire Lug Studs. (and other tire issues)

My rule is that I tighten the lug nuts with the tool that I am carrying in that vehicle for loosening them to change a tire. That has me out in the driveway right after every visit to the tire shop loosening and then tightening all of the lug nuts.

I've used anti-seize on lug stud threads for decades. One of the first things that I do with a new to me vehicle is to pull each lug nut all of the way off and apply anti-seize before tightening each with the tool that I'll be carrying in the vehicle.

My wife is rather petite and how I taught her to loosen the lug nuts on her car, should she have to change a flat when I'm not there, is to put the lug nut wrench on each nut roughly horizontal to slightly above horizontal. And then stand on it! Bounce if it doesn't move. 100 lbs at a roughly 18" lever length is way more torque than she can generate any other way. Add in the inertia from bouncing if needed and we're looking at a peak torque to rival most impacts.
