Capri Campers ?

Sorry, no experience regarding durability. Being an enclosed box, Id say its pretty good, but not as good as the aluminum cages.

I've looked into them, but for my needs I decided to pass. They seem open to special requests. I had wanted to have the Cowboys width and height changed from their website stated dimensions. That was doable.

I don't intend to be doing serious off road. Though the vibration from unimproved gravel ones is probably enough to test them. I currently have a A.R.E. DCU 23-29" wedge. In this case, me being of smaller than average height, I am getting by with it. I've had it for a spell over three years now. No insulation though. My biggest complaint with the ARE is the use of rivets on the swing up back door hinge. For some time I had to replace a few rivets that seem to disappear internally. I recently went with bolts this time. It,s much improved now. I'd love to get a real furnace in there, as well as installing a 150 watt solar. If I do that I would also add insulation to the ceiling. Dust coming in the back is a complaint, but that's with the good folks at GM. Light pours through that tailgate.

I only wish I had gotten the ARE 36" with full barn doors in the back. I woudn't get the side windoors either, just sliding screened windows. I like my trucks tailgate at times, but I can envision in another 5 years it being a nuisance climbing over that back of it to enter and exit.

My ideal setup would be an ATC Puma shell without the poptop. Yes, a hardside that provides only 60" of interior height. In addition it would be real fine if it came with a rear door that opened up the largest area as possible.

John, no personal experience, but the few owners I’ve talked to were positive about them. One guy was a railroad worker, and used his as his bunkhouse when on the road. From looking inside, they appeared quite cramped to me.

Crumbs, I believe ATC has installed wider doors for some people. It never hurts to ask.

Check out Hiatus Campers, hard side pop-up camper shell with barn doors. They sell it as a shell or with moduals interior.

Very interesting. Thank you.

I emailed them and quickly received a reply.

My usage is for quick stops where I need to catch some winks as well as change into and out of gear that will be cold and wet at times. My special request would have a driving configuration interior height of 60". That would be 39" inches above my bed rails, and ~16" over my cab roof height. The pop top would then be lessened in required height extension some.

Nice find though, It's lightweight, it does have the option for barn doors, and that track system is something I would like for any shell build. And of course the chance that I might need extra room from that overhead section, is a big plus.
