Yeah, I got lost in there way longer than I should have. Good stuff.

Sweet.

In the unlikely event dedicated WTW'ers don't already know it, the US Forest Service offers cheap rentals on small, simple cabins which had initially been built as overnight cabins for FS crews. Last time I looked the rates were around $15/night. Typically small, bunks for 4 or 6, Coleman stove + cookware + utensils included, well water, outhouse. There are some out-of-service lookout towers for rent, too, and those (obviously) have great views. Some in Idaho are +50 miles from the nearest town.

Lastly, some NF units have other structures in their rental pool. These are typically former ranger's residences, homesteader's cabins, or other residences. Some are so nice and highly sought-after booking them requires entering a lottery for the dates you desire.

I am particularly aware of the cabins/lookouts in Montana and Idaho, but as remote as some NF lands are in UT, WY, NV, NM, and CO, seems likely a review of NF websites would find some there, too.
