Not sure if this is the right forum but I have been lurking here for a long time. I am a seasonal working in the campgrounds in Yosemite Valley and am hoping to buy a used FWC (and likely a Tacoma) some time in the next year or two and travel during my offseasons. Learning a lot from reading and occasionally get to check out someone's camper at work. Would love to buy new, but it seems like it would make more sense to start with a basic used one and figure out what I need.

Welcome former lurker! Glad you're taking the FWC plunge. Why wait though? YOLO and should be out there enjoying it now. That's my attitude. I live life to the fullest, save for my retired years, and spend the rest because you can't take it with you...

Anyway it shakes out, see you on the threads!

Welcome and good luck with your search for a FWC. You already work is one of the great places in the USA World.

betacat, welcome and good luck with your work and search for a camper. It may be a bit early for you but this ad just popped up on craigslist and only a couple of hours away from you.

I have no personal knowledge about this camper and vehicle, I just post what I find on craigslist over in Gear Exchange.

Nice plan. I'd have sure loved to have a camper back when I was a seasonal firefighter, but back then I could sleep on rocks.

So I bet you've got some good campgrounds stories to regale us with /hint

Welcome, betacat. Best of luck getting your rig when the time is right. Ski3pin does a great service to the community by posting the Craigslist sales. You may have already read that when you are ready to buy have your money in hand and be prepared to jump, because the good deals go within hours of being posted.

ski3pin, that one looks like a good starter. I'm guessing it will be gone before I can get up there to look at it. Yes, this place is beautiful and it is fun working in the campgrounds. Will share some stories. Stop and see me if anyone is in the park.

Welcome to WTW betacat.
That camper/truck combo would be great. But they do go fast.
Ski always posts rigs for sale so keep checking the site.
Good luck finding something.
What campground do you work at in Yosemite?
Frank

I work in the Valley campgrounds (Upper, Lower, North Pines mostly). Just got home from work and it appears that most of the planet's population has descended upon Yosemite valley. I contacted that guy that ski3pin gave me the link to from the Tahoe area. We'll see what happens.

I am now leaning toward buying a new camper. My thoughts are a silver spur fleet with front dinette, solar, furnace, hot water/outdoor shower, two vents/one fan, jacks and the flush mounted appliances. Still not sure about the truck. Will not likely be able to afford new if I buy the camper new. Have some time to consider though since I will not be in the market until 2015. In the meantime, I will keep checking out the campers that come into my campgrounds and reading the forums here. Haven't talk to a dissatisfied owner yet.

Hi betacat, be sure to check out All Terrain Campers too (they're only about 20 minutes away from FWC). I just ordered a Bobcat shell from them (similar to FWC's Fleet model) and should take delivery of it in November. I looked for a while for a used one, but they do go fast and they go for almost what a new one would go for, so I just ordered a new one. Both companies make excellent products, so you can't go wrong.
Happy hunting...

Was it you who just stopped by and checked out my camper this last weekend up there in Lower Pines?

Yes it was Ribs. Thanks for letting me look at your rig. Looking at yours helped solidify my decision to get the front dinette. Sorry I didn't join you for a beer.

I ordered an Eagle instead of a Fleet mainly to stay as narrow as possible, but I may wish I had that extra room inside. I also traded in my 2007 FJ for a new Tacoma quad cab long bed. Same engine as the FJ and the one on my Cruiser was just getting broken in at 140K miles. I pick mine up the end of October and can hardly wait, sounds like you're just as excited. :)

Congrats. The last month seemed to take forever for my wife and I. We've taken 2 short weekend trips and head to Great Smoky Mountains for a week. My grandfather was from the South and he shared his love of grits with me. I'm the only one in our family to appreciate good grits.

That extra 4"-6" is nice but you will enjoy the camper no matter what.
With just the two of you there is enough room.
Did you get a dinette or roll over couch?
Post some pictures when you can.
Have fun.
