Has made my day! Bears Ears area is one of my favorite places, such variety. The final Bears Ears national Monument is about 2/3's the size of the original proposal and excludes some key areas but it's a great start!

There is a map in this article.

Any word on which agencies will be managing these new monuments? They're certainly huge. I thought bears ears was a relatively small area not millions of acres. Haven't been following these closely enough it seems.

This Department of the Interior press release says Bears Ears will be jointly managed by BLM and USFS (in paragraph 12) and Gold Butte will be managed by BLM (paragraph 20). There are links to maps in there showing boundaries by Surface Management Agency.

First post :D I add my thanks to President Obama & look forward to exploring these beautiful places.

Between the two, it encompasses an area larger than the State of Delaware.

Thank you, Mr. President. From the article, the Antiquities act has been used over 150 times by 16 Presidents and has never been overturned. Let's hope the same common sense prevails.

I notice that there are folks less than happy with Gold Butte NM (not me) and threatening armaments. Lovely.

Yep-that's true! Maybe it's time to do what we talk about all the time here and fight or at least write a letter to support our use out on those Public Lands-I mean they belong to us not only to the big oil, big timber, or big cow, -----Happy new year ya all :D ! Sorry 'bout the political talk-but a new year is here and if we don't do something these lands could be gone!

Link? I haven't seen that yet.
Here are a few links, with varying perspectives (perhaps) credibility.

...I've kept a Google alert on the Oregon/Bundy episode for a year now. It just warmed up again. Dunno what this bodes, if anything, but it leaves me feeling uneasy.

And yes, Smoke, I'm with you.

Our friend Jim Boone has worked tirelessly the last couple of years to to get this designation for Gold Butte. Jim, the President, and many many others deserve our heartfelt thanks for their hard work. Thank you! A wonderful end to the holidays for us! :)

Congrats to Mr. Bird & Hike! His extensive knowledge, which he generously shares on his website, certainly makes him an expert on the area.
