Low Cost Mods

A friend ("Motodave" here) added those strip LEDs to his bed shell and I liked them enough to add them to our camper too. I put a front and a rear set on the ceiling around the edges so they can be used for cooking or reading or.... I used this dimmer for on/off and intensity control for each strip. The dimmer appears to be static sensitive as we've kilt one with a static discharge.

Adds cost, but with them up on the ceiling some bases & diffuser lens' would look better. When I redo ours I'll be adding them.

Added this LED strip and switch by the door, very nice not having to enter totally dark camper. Ron

I good rainy day project was installing Love Lights in the camper. Someone other than me on Wander the West came up with the name. We have been lacking an interior light that had an easy on/off switch directly inside the door so might as well add a little romantic ambiance.

I used a strip of self adhesive led lights I bought from Amazon along with a 12V rocker switch -

led strip

switch

Since I built the interior of the camper and ran all the wiring and remember where everything is tucked away at, this was a straight forward install and easy to add to my blue seas fuse block.

We are happy with the results.

That's neat. Must've missed the first iteration.

Your comment piqued my curiosity Mr. Sun and caused me to check my memory. Here is the source on WTW -

Bullet Exposition

Bseek references an incredible build out of a truck and camper. The source of "love lights" is on page 5 of the wordpress blog, in the post dated Jan. 26, 2009.

Whew, glad my memory still works, kind of! :)

A Rubbermaid trash bucket from Kmart fits perfectly under the counter of our 2010 Eagle.

A plastic madesmart bin fits perfectly in our Dometic 3 way fridge and holds odds and ends that tend to bounce around otherwise. The handles even slide into the rack groves. It's a perfect fit. Probably from Kmart as well.

A fortuitous fit in a small space is a happy thing.

I got one of these kitchen mats from Costco. I absolutely love it. It is so nice to come down from the bed onto this vs. a hard floor. It's easy to keep clean as well.

We have a 9 month old who is quite mobile. He sleeps up top in between Mom and me but for naps and putting him to bed early we needed something to keep him from falling off.

Two oak dowels and our problem is solved. At least temporarily until he is strong enough to pull himself up and hurtle himself over the edge!

Gotta post this here. My cheap awning was fairly successful. It was pretty windy this past weekend on the White Mountains. Other than the telescoping poles all the parts can be found at most hardware stores. I want to get a second set of tarp poles in order to keep it horizontal instead of slanted down. Also want to find a 6x20 tarp to extend it further out for more shade. The reason I use a 6' wide tarp is because that is the width between my jack mounts. For wider/longer campers you can have a larger tarp. Really happy with this as of now. The true test will be in Death Valley where the "W" thing can be fierce.

This is the tent/tarp pole. I got mine several years ago at walmarx with the intent to use with a Kelty Tarp.

I found these from a retailer on ebay that look promising. They are lighter and have less corrosion potential:

You can also purchase aluminum poles from Oz Tent in different telescoping lengths, a little pricey but I like them. And they come with guy ropes too. Ron

Last weekend I emptied my porta-potty into the toilet in my little cottage and it was as gross and smelly as it is every time. I decided then and there to try something else.

I'd looked at the Luggable Loos and similar, so went to Sportsman's Warehouse and bought a 5gal bucket with a snap-shut toilet seat lid.

When I got home, I put it in my camper where the potty had been, between the seats, under the table. While looking around, I wondered if the bucket would fit inside the seat with the decent storage space that was currently being utilized by my blanket which comes out when I pop up anyway. (how's that for a run-on sentence?)

I pulled all the stuff out of the under-seat area and set the bucket inside. It mostly fit.

On Monday, I was walking my dog and saw my neighbor with his woodworking tools set up, as usual, in his driveway. I stopped to talk with him about the idea I was gnawing on.

What if I cut a piece of wood that was the same size as the wood piece that the cushion sets upon, but put a hole in it for the bucket? Something like that?

We brainstormed a bit, and turned out he had some extra plywood.

Today, I went by and we measured and measured and measured and cut.

We measured the OD of the bucket, which was just too wide since we wanted the bucket flange to rest on the wood.

Then we measured the ID and split the difference (all measured out)

This turned out to be the template, as I'd forgotten to compensate for the part the sticks out above the door for the turnbuckles. We made another one, and moved the hole over to almost the 'outside' edge. One other adjustment had to be made: the turnbuckle door had to be opened for the bucket to fit down without angling sideways.

Hard to get a good pic without popping the top, but it's a work night and I'm tired. It totally works! Initially, I wanted it to sit lower so that I could put the cushion on top, but if I need to use that space as a seat, I can take the bucket out and put the cushion on.

I'll test it all out this weekend and see if I actually like this set up.

Nice! I went with a 3 gal bucket (vs 5 gal) as it fits in the portapot space under the couch. We use it with cat litter in the bag.
3 Gal ?!?! Why didn't I think of that?! Hmmmm. Are they just as wide, but squatter?

Might hafta go back to the drawing board.
(any particular litter you like best?)

Did a search and only heard mention... not solution. For those of you familiar with TrashaRoo has anyone developed a mounting solution? I currently just hang on back climb step when camped. I would like a solution to leave attached when on road too.

Yes same thing but shorter. It's actually 3 1/2 gal. I did a web search about $6. We just happened to already have a couple for car washing ect. I just used one of those. The lid snaps on the same.

As for the Cat litter we just take a bag of what Mama Squatch keeps in stock for her cats. Special Kitty unscented from Walmart. Cheap and absorbs well and no perfume to mess with allergies.

I don't care what is used in it for litter the bucket will smell when opened after a couple days use. But so do Porta Pots in my experience. Easier to throw a thrash bag in a dumpster than dump the liquid pot to me.

Fits well in our Eagle shell.
