Dear List,
Due to being one armed for 6 months after rotator cuff surgery I'm looking to camp
and need to get the top by some other means.
I've read of a modified speaker stand with a drive powered my a cordless drill used,
but have been un-able to locate, even though I'm in the music biz.
Please help with any ideas.
Thank you,
Desert Tortoise

I have this one from Guitar Center. Sometimes on sale for about $85. Easy to remove the tripod. Ther bottom of the stand has a rubber foot so you don't need to find one. The hand crank gets the roof up the few inches to where the gas struts start working in your favor, if you don't want to use the portable drill all the way up. Be sure to unlatch all 6 roof latches or there is enough mechanical advantage to warp the roof.

Good luck with your recovery.

I have the one mentioned above and I got it via Amazon, though it might have come from one of the big music equipment vendors. You might also look into the anti load shift bars sold for pickup trucks. I have not used one but they expand across the width of the pickuybed with a ratcheting jack mechanism. Not sure of the expanse but you might be able to make it work.
