Forest Service Extends Closure Orders and Fire Restrictions in California​

This decision will be evaluated daily, taking fire and weather conditions into account. The fire prohibition includes building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=10.5pt]Nine National Forests (NF) in California remain closed: Angeles NF, Cleveland NF, Los Padres NF, Inyo NF, Klamath NF, San Bernardino NF, Sequoia NF, Sierra NF, and Six Rivers NF. This decision will continue to be reviewed daily.[/SIZE]

I was disappointed to see that hikers were still accessing Forest Service land in the San Bernardino Forest over last weekend. Clearly posted but the gate was wide open...we’re going to have to do a better job of education if the trend to “get out there” continues during this Age of COVID.

Heenan Reservoir on Monitor Pass is a catch & release Cutthroat fishery that is only open Friday - Sunday (weekends) in September and October. This year it is closed due to the nearby Slink Fire and extreme fire conditions. We drove by last Sunday morning. The gate was closed but there were 5 vehicles parked with anglers with rods going around disregarding the closure..........................

..........................it leaves me speechless.

Where is fish and game.They usually have people working the hatchery?
I wouldn't want to get caught fishing there when closed.I bet the fine is huge.
Or should be. What don't people get? Gate closed signage up seems very easy to obey.
Maybe they came from down south and figured we drove all this way we have the right to fish.
Must say somewhere in the constitution that "I can do what I want anytime I want".

Since the mid 80's I have fished there and obeyed ALL rules.It's been a great place to fish.
This year maybe the fish get a rest,that's OK with me.

I was thinking of heading to Plumas next week to participate in the California QSO party. Can't dispersed camp so oh well, camping at a campground isn't that awful. Then I see all the campgrounds in the area close at the end of the month

Although we have a winter storm approaching, our local National Forest just sent out an announcement that fire and dispersed camping restrictions are still in effect. [SIZE=10.5pt]PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Although the Eldorado National Forest is set to receive moisture this weekend, fire and camping restrictions are still in effect to prevent an unwanted wildfire. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=10.5pt]"We've been setting records for dry fuel conditions for more than 2 months," said Forest Supervisor Jeff Marsolais. "Each day, we measure the dryness of the fuels which gives us an indication of how ready they are to burn. This measurement is compared against the same day for all previous years. Even last week, we hit 100% on 3 days which set a new all time record. As soon as we have enough moisture to make a difference in the fire potential, I will lift the restrictions." [/SIZE]
