Hey WTW peeps! Anyone have any suggestions on where to boondock or camp in northern CA (north of Bodega bay)? On beach preferably, rocky or sandy.

Suggestions for our upcoming Oregon route appreciate too.

I suggest you hug the coast in southern Oregon. Not only is the scenery stunning, but wildfires (some with very little containment at this time) are creating very poor air quality in the Interstate 5 corridor, and Crater Lake. Should the conditions improve before your trip I recommend visiting the Umpqua River and/or Rogue River. If you have enough time and want to experience the Oregon desert, check out the Steens Mountains.

Fire conditions can be followed at: http://www.inciweb.org/state/38/ and http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/lg_fire2.php#

We have lived in Northern California all our lives and camping most of that time and are yet to find a boondock site on the coast between Bodega and the Loost Coast area. Some small campgrounds that are first come/first served might have spaces on weekdays. Check out the mouth of the Navarro River and Westport Union for those.

There is the beach campground in Redwood NP.It's at the southern end,I think it's called Bluff.Other members have camped there .sounds like a nice spot.
Yes the Navarro River beach is a good place to stay on the beach.
Enjoy

Gold Bluff's Beach. Yes, a great spot. Again, fc/fs so weekdays better your odds of getting a space. Take Davison Road two miles north of Orick. Not paved but driveable with any vehicle. Not unusual to have elk roam through camp.

If you go to Mattole Beach, about a mile before the beach there is a little gravel road to the right that leads to a crossing of the river. If you have a 4wd truck it should be an easy crossing. On the other side is a wide area with a lot of spots to camp.

Here is a trip report I did a few months back of a similar trip...

Most of the site are geared more to tents than campers. I wanted to stay but it was pretty full so we moved on.

Usal Beach was nice on out of the way.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions! We hugged the coast due to fires. Disappinted that we weren't able to see Crater Lake due to it being under smoke, we skipped it. By the time we had service as checked this, we were past Mattole Beach and all CGs full at redwood. We ended up staying at a private one off of 101. Let down to have not camped on the beach. We are now inland headed to Green Peter Reservoir, north of Sweet Home, OR. Heard about some decent spots in BLM land.
