[This post might not belong here, but I couldn't decide on a better spot, so...

I've been pondering why our campers have been built with screws everywhere (except the lifting mechanisms) instead of blind rivets. If they use blind rivets in aircraft, why wouldn't we prefer them in campers?

:scratches head:

why screws

Screws are easier to assemble with and if you need to fix something, they are a whole lot easier to remove and put back.

For rivets, a hole has to be drilled just to put it in. Then if you have to remove it you have to drill it out. Twice the work to achieve the same result.

Ah, but you could do away with that random self-depth-adjustment feature...

Aircraft are quite a bit pricier. And just get one worked on. Not cheap to do maintenance on. Keep in mind most of us do at least some, if not most of our own work. I know I sure don't want the fun of drilling out rivets ;)

Speaking from experience on my fiberglass trailer, which uses a lot of rivets to bind cabinetry to the hull, drilling out aluminum rivets (Scamp uses aircraft-quality rivets, BTW) is easy and fast.

Rivets

Rivets look great I will agree. To install compared to screws when you have an assembly line a labor cost issue. Cost factor also compared to screws.

If you have to take something apart, yes they drill out easy, still takes more time to remove and replace than screws.

I have helped to take apart campers over 15 years old and the screws were still holding fine.

If it isn't broke, why fix it.:)
