Power issues

Its not really a matter of the vehicle not putting out enough, but the diminutive wire size used to connect the camper to the vehicle. Useless IMO. I disconnected my camper from the vehicle after running some tests.

The advantage in using the AC inverter to send power to your camper is that at 110v, fewer amps are needed to provide the same energy to the camper batteries resulting in lower percentage voltage drop for the wire size. This in spite if the associated losses in converting the alternator 14v DC to 110v AC in the AC inverter then back to 14v DC in the Iota AC to DC converter.

You should be aware that the 400 watts from the truck is a little underpowered for the Iota. It may be useful to ask Iota if there are any long term issues due to that or how the Iota handles the equivalent of brownout conditions and if the likely modified sine wave from truck AC is a problem.

Also, contact Toyota about extended operation of the AC inverter. Do they specify a duty cycle? Having a switch to turn off the AC inverter when the truck isn't running would be good.

Just good to know early on.

ah. i updated those wires to 2g, and have seen 80A running over them. not useless anymore!

2016 have 1000 watts when running and selected which would be the only time this should ever be used
