I'm going to mount my solar panel using a couple thin L-braces on my ocelot. Im wondering if anybody has re-used their roof screws to mount thin items on top or if they just go longer and/or bigger screws to remount things.

The stock roof screw is a 3/4 # 8 sheet metal screw with a cupped neoprene washer under it. To mount a metal framed solar panel we would use six aluminum L brackets 1 1/4 inches wide with the bottom ear 1 1/2 inches and the ear connecting to the panel would be 2 inches. This way the panel is lifted about an inch above the roof and let the heat escape. The screws we use on the solar panel brackets are 3/4" # 10 screws. Marty

When I built my rack (didn't know it was going to hold solar panels at the time) I used one existing screw and one new one on each base. Has worked fine so far.
