Thinner mattress

New to me 00' TC 650. Curious about the 6", it's still comfortable enough but it's doesn't have to be 6" thick and 2" memory foam on top of that makes me real close to the ceiling, I don't care for that much. In addition to needing a small ladder to get up.
I know people have upgraded over the years, can someone share some advice or insight?

Looking like the biggest battle will be getting the old mattress out without hurting myself.. lol

OP, I'm liking the foam, you use the foam and a memory topper?
What thickness of foam?
I'm 5'10" 170 , I'm thinking 2" foam and 2" memory foam.

Ah, sorry, I didn't go with extra thin stuff, didn't need to. I was commenting on the QUALITY of the stuff I got from The Foam Factory.
